shouldn't have downloaded the update
always turn off automatic update thats rule number one when installing a bootleg os short of reinstalling xp and turning off updates when you reinstall px. You can use a crack this crack its the newest genuine advantage crack but its from march so try it and see if it works

Lauch Windows Task Manager
End "wgatray.exe" process
Restart windows in safe mode
Delete "WgaTray.exe" from C:\windows\system32
Delete "WgaTray.exe" from C:\windows\system32|\dllcache (this is a hidden folder so just type in address bar)
Lauch RegEdit (start, run)
Browse to teh following location:
HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
Delete the folder "WgaLogon" and all its contents
Reboot and you free and clear!
End "wgatray.exe" process
Restart windows in safe mode
Delete "WgaTray.exe" from C:\windows\system32

This no longer works......The Validation rechecks the CD again an online DB of valid CD keys. Also might disable Media Player 11 if you are starting it for the 1st time..... The version of XP 2600 FINAL done but ETH0 has been found to do this....I tried and tried but the fucking validation is a little tougher to get around.
bump for the cause.
I used this the other day. I noticed that at first it did not work but when I went back to the windows folder, there was a file "wgatray.dll". I deleted those 2 files and it worked fine from there. Not sure if I just lucked up or what.
