UPDATED EXCLUSIVE FRIDAY AM after Thursday 7:04PM post: As of early last LA time last night, Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame grossed $43M from showtimes that started at 6PM, however, this morning, many believe that a record toppling Star Wars: Force Awakens’ Thursday night ($57M) is in store. Disney typically reports around 8AM. Already off early evening shows, Endgame set a Marvel Thursday night/preview record besting the $39M made by Avengers: Infinity War a year ago.

Meanwhile, among films already in full play, guess what was No. 1 last night? Captain Marvel which made an estimated $1.3M to New Line’s Curse of Llorona‘s $998K. Captain Marvel‘s running total through 7 weeks is $405.5M.

AMC 25 Showtimes for Avengers as of midnight

Said AMC CEO Adam Aron as of this morning, “With wildly enthusiastic critic and fan reviews, interest in Avengers: Endgame has continued to grow beyond even the most optimistic projections. AMC wants everyone to be able to participate in this national cultural event of seeing Avengers: Endgame now on the big screen. So, at AMC Theatres, we have set aside approximately 10 million seats and 58,000 showtimes for this historic event. AMC has dedicated more seats and more showtimes behind this film’s opening than for any other movie in our history. While ticket sales to date have been incredibly robust, we still have millions of available seats for those making last minute decisions to go to the movies in theatres this weekend and share in the euphoria.”

Screen Engine/ComScore PostTrak exits exploded with 5 stars and a huge 83% definite recommend. Parents gave the pic 4 stars and kids under 12 were pleased giving it 5 stars. General audiences made up 79% of the crowd with kids numbering 11% and parents at 9%. Leading general demos were Men over 25 at 35% (90% positive), Men under 25 at 30% (loved it the most at 94%), with Females under and over 25 equally split at 18% (women under loved it at 90% while over gave the pic 89%).

Fifty-four percent of those who watched Thanos and friends last night said it’s part of a franchise they like, while close to a third said they’re going to see it a second time in a theater, with 27% saying they’ll buy the Russo Brothers-directed sequel on Blu-Ray.

Diversity breakdowns were 44% Caucasian, 22% Hispanic, 15% African American (they gave Endgame a 100% score) and 15% Asian.

Last night’s box office figures do not come from Disney, but from Deadline sources.

Force Awakens’ Thursday repped 48% of its first day Friday of $119.1M for a $247.9M three-day. Giving Endgame some cushion are K-12 schools on break: 11% were off Thursday and 13% today. There’s also 4% colleges on break.

Note Endgame previews started an hour earlier than Infinity War‘s which were at 7PM. That pic’s $39M Thursday repped 37% of its Friday ($106.3M) which resulted in the domestic opening weekend of all-time with $257.6M. Many believe Endgame will feasibly break that.

Thursday’s gargantuan numbers for the Avengers grand finale make sense: Deadline learned from industry sources earlier this week that overall pre-sales were between $120M-$140M before opening. Also, Fandango reported today that Endgame was their top preseller ever, from Hawaii to New Hampshire, with exhibitors scrambling to add new showtimes.

As Nancy reported yesterday, Avengers: Endgame amassed $169M overseas in its first day which includes China’s opening day record of $107.5M.

UPDATE, writethru: Along with its record-breaking first day in China, Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame is crushing into the all-time books with a cumulative $169M through Wednesday at the international box office. That one-day gross includes the $107.5M start in the Middle Kingdom yesterday as well as debuts in 24 other material markets. Each of the openings on Wednesday was bigger than Avengers: Infinity War, putting Endgame, from directors Anthony and Joe Russo, ahead of the previous installment in all markets.

In China, the running cume estimate through Thursday (ie today, and still an early number which is not fully included in the total above), is $153M (RMB 1.03B). This reflects a $45.5M Thursday which is a roughly 42% drop from Wednesday (sans midnights). That’s an expected dip given the hyper-anticipation for opening day. The full weekend, which is a 5-day frame that includes just one non-workday, is looking towards the $300M+ zone.

Endgame set a new IMAX opening day benchmark (including midnights) with RMB 93M ($13.8M) from 608 screens, surpassing Infinity War by 82%. IMAX repped about 13% of the Middle Kingdom launch gross, as well as the Top 10 locations and 88 of the 100 best-performing sites. The 22nd MCU entry is only the second film in history to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras. (For more on the China opening, see here.)

The series-ender is poised to be an all-time international and global record-breaker and we’ll have a clearer picture of just where it’s headed when more markets come online. Right now, the international opening estimates are trending well upwards, into the $700M+ range. Domestic has previews starting tonight local time while overseas today adds the UK and Brazil with Friday recruiting Japan and Mexico to the team.

Overall through Wednesday, eight markets have logged the biggest industry single-day record, including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Philippines and Korea (the latter in terms of admissions). Among records for opening days are Indonesia, Malaysia, the Netherlands and a handful more.

In the UK, early indications point to record-setting numbers for midnights and the rest of the session. Applaudience reports that as of midday local time today, about 1.2M tickets have been sold for the FSS.

Turning back to Wednesday numbers, the next best launch after China was in Korea at $8.4M, which as well as being the top all-time industry single day in admissions, is the best non-holiday opening day ever. (Early estimates today have Korea adding another $6M.) On Wednesday, Iron Man and the crew came in 40% higher than Infinity War there. Some markets had even bigger increases over Infinity War with Hong Kong up 98%, Germany 95% ahead and France over by 64%.

The No. 3 opening grosser after China and Korea so far is Australia with $7M for +17% on IW. ComScore’s PostTrak locally reports that the film has five out of five stars in Oz and an 88 Total Positive score from audiences with a 68% “definitely recommend.”

Rounding out the Top 10 Wednesday openers are France ($6M/+64%), Italy ($5.8M/+66%), Germany ($5.6M/+95%), Philippines ($3.9M/+45%), Hong Kong ($2.7M/+98%), Taiwan ($2.6M/+50%) and Indonesia ($2.5M/+42%).

The assembled Avengers also hit the highest superhero opening day of all time in Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.

Here Are All the Box Office Records ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Will Break This Weekend

Avengers: Endgame” has become astronomical in its first three days, setting records in the U.S., China and a variety of overseas markets. These are some of the records the superhero tentpole is destroying on its first weekend at the box office.

  • Biggest China opening day:Avengers: Endgame” set the record on April 24 for the biggest opening day and biggest single day in Chinese history with $107.2 million, surpassing China’s homegrown production “Monster Hunt 2.”
  • International record breaker: It became the biggest single-day performer in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Korea (by number of admissions), the U.K., Brazil, Egypt, Panama, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Trinidad and Uruguay. It also registered the top opening day in Indonesia, Malaysia, Netherlands, Greece, Portugal, Slovakia, Turkey and Ukraine.
  • Thursday preview record: In the U.S., “Avengers: Endgame” set a record for top Thursday preview gross at $60 million, beating the 2015 record of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at $57 million.
  • Domestic weekend record: Disney projected on Friday afternoon that “Avengers: Endgame” would finish the domestic opening weekend at about $300 million, demolishing last year’s record set by “Avengers: Infinity War” with $257.7 million.
  • Most screens for one film: “Avengers: Endgame” is setting a record by showing at 4,662 North American locations.
Here are more records that “Avengers: Endgame” has a good shot at breaking:

  • Top market share: The fourth Avengers movie has a good shot at taking the title for top market share for an opening weekend among films that opened at more than $150 million. That distinction is currently held by “Avengers: Age of Ultron” with 82% of the total market when it opened with $233 million in 2015. Comscore indicated the rest of the slate will probably take in about $40 million this weekend — which could mean that “Avengers: Endgame” could have a record-setting share of more than 85%.
  • Biggest worldwide opening: Other records that could be in jeopardy are for the largest international opening weekend, currently held by “Fate of the Furious” with $443 million, and biggest worldwide opening weekend, currently held by “Avengers: Infinity War” at $640 million.
The Marvel finale’s impact is so widespread that AMC Cinemas chain said “Avengers: Endgame” will show a record 58,000 times at AMC theatres this weekend, breaking the previous record held by “Avengers: Infinity War” by more than 10,000.
