At least four people were killed and 20 injured, four of them critically, after a mass shooting at a bar early Sunday morning, authorities in South Carolina have said.

All four victims were found dead at the scene after at least one shooter opened fire on the crowd of hundreds during the shocking attack at Willie’s Bar and Grill on St. Helena Island just before 1 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Upon arriving at the scene deputies made contact with a large crowd of people, several of which were suffering from gunshot wounds,” the statement read.
“It was learned that hundreds of people were at the location when the shooting occurred. Multiple victims and witnesses ran to the nearby businesses and properties seeking shelter from the gunshots,” the statement continued.
No arrests have been made, but authorities say they are “investigating persons of interest.”
The victims were rushed to the hospital by Beaufort County EMS on Sunday morning.
Their names have not yet been released, and the exact circumstances behind the shooting are not known at this time, the sheriff’s office said.

“This is a tragic and difficult incident for everyone. We ask for your patience as we continue to investigate this incident. Our thoughts are with all of the victims and their loved ones,” the statement concluded.
Politicians in South Carolina have spoken out in horror following news of the shooting.
“COMPLETELY HEARTBROKEN to learn about the devastating shooting in Beaufort County. Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this horrific act of violence. If you have any information, please contact the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at 843-255-3418, as soon as humanly possible,” Rep. Nancy Mace wrote on social media.
“The tragic news out of Beaufort County is heartbreaking. I’m lifting up in prayer the families who lost loved ones and those who were injured,” South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott wrote on X.
“All of in South Carolina will be holding those affected close in our hearts in the days ahead,” he added.
