Ask Me Anything About Youtube - I'll Answer

There's a lot of misconceptions about Youtube. If anyone has any questions about Youtube I will gladly answer.

I personally think there are some SERIOUS opportunities opening up because of this online video craze. It's kind of like when the internet first got big and people didn't know what to do with it (but some people figured some shit out and made a bunch of money.) I think the same is/has been/and will be happening with this online video jazz.

I'm going to talk to a bunch of White People with money about it later this week....

Note: I'm trying to make up for my previous whack entrance to BGOL. :D

OK, here's a question: is there any way to view a video without increasing its view count?

I'm 99.9% sure the answer is NO, but if you can think of an exception I'd like to hear it.

ok what do you think about youtube as a marketing tube?

how would you market on there?

do you think another site could compete with youtube?

whats up with the new google adsense being implemented in youtube. how exactly does that work and how is money generated from that by webmasters (cats using this new feature)

holla

Yes, just don't let the video play until the end. Youtube actually only counts views when a video plays all the way to the end (so I've heard, and does seem to be the case.) I know this because in order to "game" Youtube a person has to let the video play all the way to the end before having their browser automatically refresh.

You can read more about that here: http://mashable.com/2006/10/16/gaming-youtube-for-fun-and-profit/

I think Youtube is OUTSTANDING for marketing. Although I'm sure it would depend on what exactly it is you're marketing and how you go about doing it. It takes time to build an audience on Youtube is can be a lot of work (if you don't know the "tricks.") BUT if you make a video about... something that there aren't a lot of videos about. Title and tag it properly it's going to rank high on a Google search (do a couple "common" Google searches see how many have Youtube videos. Also, people click through the "related videos" on Youtube, so you can get traffic that way as well.

(I kind of rambled on that one...)

How would I use it? Well, I guess I'm figuring that out right now. But the way I'm going to use it is going to be different than you. I already have an audience on Youtube. My plan is to review products that would match my audience and have affiliate links to go with said products. Or drive traffic to a blog. Or build an email list. There are a lot of things that can be done. I'd start playing around.

Wu Chess ( http://www.wuchess.com/ ) came out a few days ago and I asked them if I could have a free subscription if I would review it on my blog and Youtube channel. They said yeah (that was fun.) I plan on finding stuff to review that I would get paid off of. [/ramble]

I don't think there is another site that can compete with Youtube (generally speaking.) Although there are going to be a lot of "specialty" sites that will be better than Youtube for certain things (like godtube http://www.godtube.com/ if you were going to be focusing on religion.)

One thing you may be unaware of is that Youtube now has the Google Analytics feature FOR ALL USERS! This thing is FRESH! You can see who watched what when and how.

They talk about it here really quick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo6HBKTyIzQ

But they've already added some more features since releasing that video (like what search terms were used, plus male/female and ages demographics.)

It depends on which one you're talking about. It sounds like you're talking about that feature with hwo you can embed a Youtube video and it will display ads and you'll get a cut. I haven't used that yet, so I can't say much about it. I am in the partner program (where they place ads next to the videos.) I basically get a cut from that. If you have the ability of setting that up, you should do that and let me know how that works out for you. :)

What are the opportunities that are opening ?

Well, one obvious (to me) thing is everything that is currently happening in the US is going to be spreading around the world, so if you're a speaker of another language or understand another culture, that's something to think about.

Even though there are a lot of "niches" already covered on Youtube, there are a lot that aren't. If you can come on and be an expert of something that isn't already really being covered, there might be something there for you.

Even just using Youtube for video hosting makes it easy to add video to a website trying to close a sale. You can make a video autoplay so when someone comes to your site, the video starts up and starts walking the visitor through something or closing a sale.

Even if it's not about making money there's A LOT to be learned surfing around Youtube. Pretty much anything you want to learn someone's on there teaching it. Also, if you like to teach you could start teaching something (how to cook, how to sow, how to speak russian, whatever) and build an audience. Or you could just have fun debating with people you see putting stuff out there.

Throw "ass shaking" or "booty" into the Youtube search and there are tons of videos with hundreds of thousands or millions of hit with... NO link in the more info area. Those videos could be driving traffic SOMEWHERE (perhaps adult friend finder or something.)

I'm far from an expert at making money using Youtube at the moment, but there's SOMETHING there. Someone that understands the internet marketing side of things better than I do could probably figure something out.

sorry to hijack your thread, bro ....

Marketing On YouTube Using Video Annotations

YouTube has just launched a great new feature called Video Annotations. Video Annotations allows you to add speech bubble type boxs to your videos & link these speech bubbles to another YouTube video or even to your YouTube channel. This is a great little feature.
Annotations

It means that while a user is watching your video you can send them to a related video or even an infomercial or sales video related to what they are viewing. I’ve already set one up & you can see it in action on my Yahoo Answers Video

As the viewer is watching the video about 17 seconds in a clickable speech bubble pops up saying ‘Click Here For Free Website Traffic‘ as the viewer is already watching a video about website traffic this is very relevant to them & when they click it they are sent to my video about the Traffic Transformer.

This feature can be used for any niche. For example if you’re in the dog training niche & have a dog training video, during the video give the viewer the opportunity to go see some information about your product, an infomercial or some testimonials. This is a great way to deliver information to a potential customer & makes it very easy for them to get more information about you and your product.

Also the googlesystem blog says Annotations are a new way for you to add interactive commentary to your videos. Use them to add background information about the video, create stories with multiple possibilities (viewers click to choose the next scene) or link to related YouTube videos, channels, or search results from within a video.” Here’s an example of an interactive card trick video created using annotations.

Youtube Annotations

Here’s what YouTube’s help center says about annotations:

“Video annotations are a new way for you to add interactive commentary onto your videos!

You control what the annotations say, where they appear on the video, and when they appear and disappear. You can even link from an annotation to another YouTube Video, Channel, or Search result.

To get started, log into your YouTube account and choose one of two options:
Option 1:

1. Click “Account” at the top of any page.
2. Under “Manage My Videos”, click “Videos, Favorites, & Playlists”.
3. Find the video you’d like to add annotations to.
4. Click the “Annotate Video” button.

Option 2:

1. Choose to play one of your videos.
2. At the bottom of your video description box (on the right) you have “Video Owner Options” on a blue background.
3. Click the “Add/Edit Annotations” button.

For more info on how to create and edit annotations, please visit: “How do I create or edit video annotations?”

Video annotations, once published, are shown by default. You can turn them off while watching a video through the “Menu” button on the bottom right of the video player.

Please note: Video annotations are available now as a “beta” feature. We’re working hard to get this out of beta and, once we do, annotations will officially support languages other than English, embeds, and full-screen playback.”

major props on this thread. Youtube is definitely some next level shit and there are tons of opportunities with it. Thanks for dropping some serious knowledge.
