Ashley Judd to Run for Senate in 2014?

Ms. Judd goes to Washington?

If some Democrats in Kentucky have their way, residents of the Bluegrass state might be able cast their ballots for Ashley Judd in 2014.

The Courier-Journal reports that some local politicians see the actress and activist as a solid choice to challenge Senator Mitch McConnell next election cycle. Rep. John Yarmuth, of Kentucky's 3rd district, is one such believer, claiming such a battle could become the "premiere race in the country."

"If you had an Ashley Judd-McConnell race, I think it would be as high-profile a race as [Massachusetts'] Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown," Yarmuth told the paper.

Kentucky native Judd, 44, who served as a Democratic National Convention delegate for Tennessee this year, hasn't yet weighed in on whether or not she would actually agree to run for the seat.

The Missing star has given some serious thought to becoming more politically active in general, however.

"I do receive a lot of encouragement to run," Judd told the audience at a panel discussion about women in politics (hosted by EMILY's List and Marie Claire) in September. "And my deepest desire is to be useful. I want to help serve my fellows. And I may be doing that to the best of my capacity . . . in the space I'm already operating in. Or it may be time to look at possibly running for office."

I think she still is attractive, just that picture isn't doing anything for her.

Maybe I've missed something but I've never heard her endorse anyone, but again like I said I could have missed it. I want to say this will be interesting, but :dunno:

Ashley Judd meets with DSCC

February 20, 2013

Actress Ashley Judd privately met with officials at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in Washington earlier this week, as she continues to weigh whether to mount a Senate run against Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, according to two sources familiar with the session.

According to one person familiar with the matter, Tuesday’s meeting was Judd’s first formal one with officials at the DSCC, which coordinates strategy, recruits and fundraises on behalf of Democratic Senate candidates. DSCC officials refused to comment, saying they would not discuss candidate recruitment.

The meeting indicates that the Hollywood movie star and eighth-generation Kentuckian is still seriously weighing a political foray after spending the past several years as an outspoken environmental and liberal activist. But sources said it remains uncertain whether Judd wants to leave acting to take on the Senate minority leader, who is the Democrats’ top target in 2014 when he runs for a sixth term.

Judd’s interest in the race has prompted mixed feelings among Democrats both nationally and in Kentucky. Some worry she wouldn’t be able to overcome her clear vulnerabilities: The actress’s staunchly liberal views in a conservative state, and an open question over whether she could withstand the brutal campaign tactics of a wily politician like McConnell. Others believe Judd’s high name recognition and star power make her an appealing candidate, allowing her to draw huge sums of cash and energize the base in a state where Democrats still maintain a voter registration advantage.

McConnell Readies Attack

McConnell and his GOP allies, like American Crossroads, are taking the prospects of a Judd run seriously enough that they have already begun to attack the Hollywood actress.

McConnell and his team have already conducted internal polling testing the best attack lines to use against Judd, including the fact that she currently lives in Tennessee and was a delegate for President Barack Obama from the Volunteer State at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. That was the subject of a Web video McConnell’s team released Tuesday attacking all of the prospective Democratic candidates.

A McConnell poll in December found that Judd would start off just four points down from the GOP leader, but the poll suggested his lead would grow substantially if she were unable to fend off the avalanche of attacks certain to come her way.
