As the first Black First Lady, women what are some issues you would like to see....

Re: As the first Black First Lady, women what are some issues you would like to see..

I was thinking the same thing...It would be nice for the kids to have entrepreneurship and money management classes...I'm not sure if some schools already have this and I won't know until mine are in middle and high school (should start checking on that). I remember some of my classmates taking classes that would prepare them for the medical field and I remember ROTC. I was part of the Future Business Leaders Club...but there really wasn't much to it...But they really should consider having those classes in schools today. I still don't understand why I had to take cooking or sewing.....There are a whole list of things that could be changed in inner city schools...I'm thinking at least half of the curriculum.

I would like for her to tackle domestic violence laws.

the closest michelle obama is getting to the whitehouse is that goddamn gate infront of it.

Okay, let me try to manage ya'll's expectations before you get your widdle feelin's hurt. I sent him money, and I'm gonna vote for him, but here's the news: LIFE FOR BLACK FOLKS AFTER OBAMA IS GOING TO BE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME AS LIFE BEFORE OBAMA. Except that a black man will have been president, which is no small feat.

You can write big long paragraphs, but you can't read?

You are so stupid sometimes it hurts, LD. What happens with Michelle Obama as First Lady is going to be driven by what the PRESIDENT does, not her. She can "tackle" whatever in the fuck she wants to, SHE DOESN'T HAVE A FIRST LADY MAGIC WAND!!!! Nothing happens unless HE supports it. She has zero power. Visibility? Yes. Power (which is all that really counts in this world, everything else is bullshit)? No. She can't "tackle" anything, she can only raise issues. I am not surprised that the difference is lost on you.

I swear, you all are so fucking disappointing...

Children's healthcare, domestic violence, the issues that women in the military deal with, and the issues that women in prison deal with.

Re: As the first Black First Lady, women what are some issues you would like to see..

This is a good question that I haven't thought about. Most first ladies to dedicate their time and efforts, or just their family name to causes they believe in...

With that said, I think I agree with the OP... schooling issues are important, especially after that failure called No Child Left Behind...

I don't expect things to really be "different" with a black president, I don't expect a focus on issues that pertain to black people.. but it would be nice if their efforts build a sense of community amongst us... some sense of camaraderie, we need to stop being crabs in a barrel...

I laugh at this insolent fool. First ladies going back as far as I can remember, have always had ONE OR TWO main issues that they tackled in their tenure. Nancy Reagan it was DARE and the inner city drugs problem. Hillary Clinton it as health care reform. Laura Bush was schools and literacy, and also international women's issues. Rosalynn Carter was mental health issues. Betty Ford...well that should be obvious, there's clinic named after her.

The content of the thread you posted in is positive. We are not here to downgrade or engage in graphic sexual depictions. If you don't like Robeson's opinion, dont answer to it. Putting him on ignore, is always an option.

Thanks in advance...

Re: As the first Black First Lady, women what are some issues you would like to see..

hmmmm

1) inner city schools
-curriculum, resources, quality of teachers, after school programming, facilities...the whole nine

2) rehabilitation and socialization services offered in/outside of prison (prison would need to start being less of a business first)

3) mental and physical health

4) mentoring programs

5) abstinence vs harm reduction/education programs in terms of drugs and sex for children & young adults (if the stats say harm reduction/education are more effective then put this countries Puritan beliefs aside and make it work..yeah i know easier said than done)

i'll be back later for more
