Arrest warrants for reckless driving and racing have been issued for Georgia’s star defensive lineman Jalen Carter in connection to the fatal car crash in which one of his teammates and a team staffer died.

An investigation by Athens-Clarke County Police found that Carter, who is currently at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and is in the running to be the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, was driving a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk “in a manner consistent with racing” the morning that Georgia player Devin Willock and recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy were killed in the Jan. 15 crash.

LeCroy was driving a 2021 Ford Expedition and had a blood alcohol concentration of .197 at the time of the crash.

“The evidence demonstrated that both vehicles switched between lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes of travel, overtook other motorists, and drove at high rates of speed, in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other,” the Athens-Clarke County Police Department said in a release Wednesday morning.

“Evidence indicated that shortly before the crash the Expedition was traveling at about 104 miles per hour.”

An Atlanta Journal-Constitution report on Wednesday said that Carter, 21, told police he was about a mile away from the crash, and then later said he was following the car that had crashed.

Carter then told police, per the report, that he was alongside the other car. The report said Carter left the crash scene and returned 90 minutes later.

Carter was scheduled to speak to reporters in Indianapolis on Wednesday

Unbelievable! My Bears most likely were going to draft him, with this news that's not going to happen.. Dude is in some serious trouble. :smh:
The Bears may take him off of their board because of this. If not, he may still be in play to draft and he could be gotten with a later pick in the draft most likely.
According to this the penalty for street racing isn't crazy. Neither is the penalty for reckless driving which appears to be at worst a year in jail which an excellent lawyer, which Carter could afford at this point, would most likely get knocked down. Reckless driving is a misdemeanor.
Also the driver of the other car that died had a blood alcohol level of .197 at the time.

Former Georgia football star Jalen Carter reached a plea deal in connection to the fatal car crash that killed two people earlier this year.

Carter pled no contest to charges of reckless driving and racing, according to college football reporter Seth Emerson.

As part of his plea agreement with Athens-Clarke Co., Carter will receive 12 months of probation and pay a fine of $1,000.

Carter will also serve 80 hours of community service and complete a driving course.
