The thing you don't realize is Jews were reimburse for their recent troubles. Africans were just set free.

Many of the ideas of the Christians have been expressed better, and earlier by the Greeks. Behind these views is an ancient doctrine that has existed from the beginning [in Egypt]- Celsus

We handed our spiritual evolution to the powers that be, and are now, as a result of this folly, divorced from the sacred oracle within. The goal of true religion or theology, is to return one to the understanding that one cannot find god, one becomes god, that is enlightened, to the truth of ourselves and the living ambient universe.

The Imitatio Christi will forever have this disadvantage: we worship a man as a divine model, embodying the deepest meaning of life, and then out of sheer imitation we forget to make real the profound meaning present in ourselves - Carl Gustav Jung

I really look with commiseration over the great body of my fellow citizens who, reading newspapers, live and die in the belief that they have known something of what has been passing in their times - Thomas Jefferson

Quit readin the news and start making the news.

some of you guys in here do a lot of talking. and it sounds like the same thing over and over and over, and then one person tries to make his point and then the other, make a better point. talk is cheap.

Actions speak louder then words.

Your Self knows what you are really about when you look hard enough. Dont waste your time trying to impress each other on why we are in our conditions. Everyone is write, and had given their awesome thoughts. NOW WHAT? go download more shit....

Be a mentor. tutor kids. GO visit a church, and experience the half assed sermons, then ask the pastor why he only gave half of the total information needed for the "damaged" blacks to connect the spiritual dots. Then listen to him/her say "I gave the other half 4 weks ago." Then figure out how to educate people on whatever. Organize in your communities. Find out a way to help the commUNITY to realize whats going on about itself. Its easy. make something happen, then you would really know. Find out what everyone has to bring to the table in your community. Study computer animation, and film, then use it as a means through independent film to educate, and voice your Self and your people.

Without action, this board is meaningless[to me].

couldn't agree more.

once the people are prepared, a leader will emerge.

I do not expect "A [1] LEADER" to bring us Afrikans, Americanized out of our situation. your gonna need to multiply that by at least 100 - 1,000. One leader will eaasily be destroyed assasinated, killed be4 he/she gets the chance, sent to jail, the list goes on. And no one will care.

The rest of the people are simply lost , and are merely followers.

After the leader goes, they'll continue following the evil gov't of doom.

Quit waiting for your leader.

You are your leader.

Tell a Jew to get over the Holocaust because it is history and he might slap your ass. Jews are the one that will not let you forget it. But blacks are to get over slavery just what the motherfuckers want you to do. Never forget your history, thats a big part of the problem today in my opinion. Just need to forget that gangsta bullshit

Anytime you kidnap, kill, rape, play one skin tone against another, make a people adopt to a eurocentric way of life - a life that is not originally theirs you have psychologically damaged ppl. When you don't know who you are, where you are and where your inheritance lies you are a lost ppl. So-called african americans are not african at all, they are ISRAEL. Africa is a continent comprising many nations of ppl.

Is there a difference between: forgetting (or not forgetting) - and - getting over it ??? The scar from a wound may be a constant reminder of what happened, but the important part is that the wound heals so life goes on. Neither we or history should forget, but slavery must be put into perspective and healing (getting on with getting everything this country has to offer - and knocking down the barriers standing in the way of that effort) should be our priority.

I agree bro. Turn a negative into a positve. Understand the history and use it for upliftment.

Just look at us. Everything is backwards. Everything is upside-down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the major media destroy information, and religion destroys spirituality - Michael Ellner

The only people that ever changed this country for better cause were mostly of Afrikan descent.

With all the statistics showing blacks to be trailing in educational endeavors and over represented in negative aspects of life (crime, drugs, prison) and it seeming to be an enduring problem is it possible that we are continuing a cycle of abuse and failure?

The chances are high that an chronically abused person will exhibit psychological damage and that most abused children will grow up to be abusers themselves...

It would seem that blacks are exhibiting the same behavior patterns...so are we psychologically damaged?

It depends on where you take your cues from. Based on the black families I know, including mine, we won't allow our children to become vics because of sheer neglect. We demand a lot from them and put a lot of time into their education including moving into areas where the schools are better financed so they have a better than average of succeeding in whatever career path they choose.

Now if you think that good grades, hard work and learning the language is for sellouts, coons and white wanna-be's then your prospective will look for other external forces to justify how some get fucked over in the system.

yea we're damaged but its not from slavery.

we're damaged from believing that salvation will come through white people.

we're damaged because we wait on their policies and "good will" to deliver us.

The Jews were given a nation of their own. Away from their oppressors. So they are no longer facing the same trauma as close to them. They were able to thrive in a nurturing society of their peers. Blacks still have to deal with their oppressor on a daily basis. There is no escape. no relief from oppressive tactics which has in addition taken on a high tech tone; subliminal suggestion through all forms of the media.

Jewish people have also received reparations, something blacks will probably never see. The Japanese have also received reparations. Native Americans receive money, have land (reservations), tax exempt status and soverign rights. Hence they are a nation within a nation (seperate nation). When compared to other groups, blacks are behind in what they were compensated with.

Does there come a time when you recognize what hit you; when you step back and take stock of the blow; when you shake off the cobwebs; and begin to change things. In other words, do you whallow or do you get up and hit back ? If the blow permanently damaged the psychic, why are there so many successes ? Are the successes just aberrations, or indication of what can happen ???

Exactly. All these years, make it decades, if a not at least one century now, where we African-Americans have been pointing out exactly what put us so far behind and still there are so many of us who are not taking strong, everyday actions to change the cycle?! If we know what the problem is, let's address it. I know that there are tons of us who are, but there's still a substantial portion who are not. Each person has to want to do better for themselves AND THEIR OWN CHILDREN to ultimately change the picture in a much more dramatic way than where it currently stands. I do work in the community myself and I can tell you it is so greatly discouraging to see the numbers of my own people who seem to be comfortable living in mediocrity while at the same time bemoaning the system that "has put them there".

It's fine, no, make it critical to analyze the causes and current factors that account for our collective predicament. But, the next vital step is that we set about on a determined effort to address these things and make things change. Again, many of us are, I know, far more than mainstream society would have you believe. But, on top of all the obstacles we face, I think the largest of them all now resides within the populace of our own African-American community. People must be willing to change themselves, no one else can do that all for you.

Black people's challenge is pretty simple. Get whites out of our lives. That goes for Latinos, Asians, Indians, Eskimos and everybody else. Don't listen to racist, condecending whites, keep them out of our communities, our business, our heads. Stop letting them be judge and jury of whats success or right and wrong.

CNN is doing a 2 nite documentary on Black in America, like they know whats Black in America, and they have Soledad [never fucked a black man] Obrien moderating it. It's a joke.

SO now you know!!
What you gonna do about it?

When you go to the doctor for diagnosis , he then prescribes a treatment.

The answer starts with self. Control yourself, learn to relax, get stress off the brain. Then start defining who I am, what I believe, what's important. Then be assertive, get fear out of the system. Next choose associates carefully, in other words start with self it will spread.

MLK Decried the Psychological Enslavement of Blacks

It is well past time for black people to heed Martin Luther
King Jr.’s call to build a movement for emotional emancipation.

mlk.jpg.CROP.rtstory-large.jpg

There is a sad irony in the fact that we are celebrating what would have been the 85th birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., just a month after the New York Times focused national attention on the gap in breast-cancer survival rates between black and white women. This news came on top of the disclosure that the income and wealth gaps between blacks and whites continue to grow, and the gap in standardized-test scores has scarcely budged.

The King holiday has been with us now for nearly 30 years. Every year we celebrate him as the Dreamer and the Drum Major. But the data on the disruptions within the black community continue to add up, and they are likely to keep getting worse until we pay attention to a forgotten yet crucial part of King’s legacy: his call for psychological liberation.

In August 1967, in his final presidential address to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, King drew a powerful link between racism and the psychological health of black people. In answer to the question “Where do we go from here?” he said, “First we must massively assert our dignity and worth.” He talked about the “false sense of inferiority” that plagues the black community and pointed to the need for us to regain our “psychological freedom.” “Any movement for the Negro’s freedom,” he said, “that overlooks this necessity is only waiting to be buried.”

On this, as with so many other issues, King was prophetic. There is a growing body of evidence that the black community is in emotional distress brought about by the historical and continuing trauma of racism and its dehumanizing consequences. Among the signs of distress are 1) the fact that homicide is the leading cause of death for young black men, 2) a consistent decline in both the number and longevity of black marriages and 3) the disproportionate number of African Americans who are incarcerated.

A comprehensive study by the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan found that higher levels of chronic physical health problems, such as hypertension, heart disease and obesity, and of depression and lower life satisfaction are related to the chronic stress of racism. According to the American Psychiatric Association’s 2006 resolution against racism, “Racism and racial discrimination adversely affect mental health by diminishing the victim’s self-image, confidence, and optimal mental functioning.” And a recent study in the journal Psychological Science found that experiencing discrimination increases anger and risk-taking behavior.

We believe that close to the root of many of the problems plaguing our community is the lie of black inferiority. That lie was introduced centuries ago to justify the dehumanization and enslavement of black people, and it is still with us today—undermining our psychological, physical, family and community well-being. It is also undermining our ability to address our challenges. A community in emotional distress cannot deal effectively with the problems confronting it.

Community Healing Network and the Association of Black Psychologists are working in collaboration to build a movement for the emotional emancipation, healing, wellness and empowerment of black people. A key element of our collaboration is the development of the concept of Emotional Emancipation Circles—culturally grounded, evidence-based support groups through which we as a people can work together to develop essential emotional-wellness skills and compassionately examine our community, family and personal histories to decide which of our attitudes and behaviors are worth taking with us—and which must be left behind—as we move forward to build a future in which we can thrive, not just survive.

A team from ABPsi has developed an Emotional Emancipation Circles Guide, which has been piloted in Tuskegee, Ala. (pdf), and New Haven, Conn. At its 45th annual convention in New Orleans in July 2013, ABPsi trained teams of psychologists who have launched EE Circles in more than 20 cities across the African Diaspora. CHN and ABPsi will continue to work together to provide webinar training to local leaders to launch additional EE Circles starting in February 2014 through an initiative called “Celebrating Our History, Transforming Our Present, and Taking Control of Our Destiny.”

Our goal is to engage a critical mass of black people in the United States in the movement for emotional emancipation by the year 2019, the 400th anniversary of the forced arrival of Africans at Jamestown Colony. As a people, we know a great deal about King, the dreamer. But we need to know even more about King, the psychological freedom fighter. As he said, “The Negro will only be free when he reaches down to the inner depths of his own being and signs with the pen and ink of assertive manhood his own emancipation proclamation.”

The Root aims to foster and advance conversations about issues relevant to the black Diaspora by presenting a variety of opinions from all perspectives, whether or not those opinions are shared by our editorial staff.
