The Entrepreneur-in-Residence is responsible for building transformational Nike start ups that extend beyond today’s core business at Nike. S/he will effectively identify significant growth ideas, create the case for exploring and advancing the start up, build minimum viable products, iterate in market, and agilely build toward
commercialization.
This individual will have the rare opportunity to create at the leading edge of retail
and consumer products and services, leveraging the assets of Nike, in a high-profile position with widespread organizational impact.
S/he will have a talent for navigating through ambiguity and uncertainty
to drive results. S/he has the unique ability to start up businesses while also knowing what it is to drive innovation within a large organization.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Build new start ups, services and offerings
• Create and own the vision and start up thesis – considering consumer, technology and market trends
• Iterate the ideas aggressively to hone in on and validate the consumer problem/friction, solutions and business model
• Develop prototypes, pilots, and other tests – spanning physical and digital formats
• Know when to act in service to the corporation and when to think beyond the core about the broader needs of the consumer and external market opportunities
• Direct and motivate the team to do what is needed to advance (or kill) a start up
• Share the vision for the start up with senior executive team and bring them along on the journey of the work being done and insights gleaned from in-market Lean Innovation
Qualifications
• Experience as a real-world entrepreneur; strong consideration for building businesses targeting large scale opportunities
• Business & strategy chops – strong business acumen and strategic insights
• Builder chops – being able to respond to customer signals and address execution problems as they occur
• Corporate chops – experience that spans across start-ups and large corporate environments
• Strong team builder with excellent organization and people skills and the ability to set priorities, problem-solve, multi-task and iterate well in dynamic, rapidly changing environment
• Robust Nike network to bring in ideas and expedite a series of Nike start ups
