As of two days ago I started creating a new .com. The site was inspired by the racism and abandonment resulting from hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and so forth. I’m tired of seeing the news display “people looting,” “shots fired at help,” “38923 attempted rapes” and so forth, but the real issues are never addressed. Sometimes if you want the real story to get out you have you to publish it yourself. That’s part of the focus of this site.
I have an extremely good .com that I couldn’t believe was still available. Being that it is black related maybe I can believe it was available. The domain is an exact search query, which will bring in a lot of traffic from search engines. The sites main focus will be to publish news articles pertaining to black people written by black people. I don’t want to show bias on either side. Users will be able to leave feedback on news posted, submit stories for approval and so forth. The site will also contain a message board allowing people to interact. It’ll have several forums, as does BGOL except it won’t have adult content. There will be a personals section within the forum. Those are the two main points of the site as of now. I’m thinking of other ideas I want to implement such as a store, some kind of services, contests (poetry, art, music, ..) , etc.. I don’t want to make the site boring. I want it to attract those who were searching for it as well as bring in and keep those who weren’t. That’s where a lot of these sites fail. News alone won’t work. Out of all the articles I searched for on google, after I found the article 9/10 I never visited the site again. Lacked content.
I have several plans to generate revenue such as ad space, and adsense type services primarily, but money will be made in other ways as well. The main focus is to get the news out, but everything costs money. The site won’t be flooded with ads, just a small number of banners. There will be no pop-ups, redirects, etc.. As the site grows so will the cost.
I’ve been running sites for about 6yrs. I have a few major domains, and know how to market this site.
Enough about that. Now on to what I want. I would like to know if any writers would be interested in helping submit news, events, etc.. Obviously It’s only so much area I could attempt to cover on my own.
I would also like to know as a viewer, besides news what other information / content would you like to see on such a site. You input is appreciated.
Tired of saying what I wanna do or what should be done, so I'm doing. Results may be limited but best I could do is try so I'm cool with any progress.
