I currently work in BK,NYC. I have a degree in mass communications-magazine major, though as of now I am not using that degree and my experience is less than 2 years in that field.

I want to see what openings any employer may have. I currently use NYTimes.com as my main job seeker.

well johniz, are you looking to stay in your major? what cities will you entertain for relocation? I don't have the source but a friend of mine told me that 70% of all black professionals have left NY since 2003. Really, what is the employment climate up there?

I really am not looking to relocate away from NYC, and I want to reinsert myself back into journalism.

If you have 2+ years here in NYC and maybe know someone, you're as good as in. If not, you're as good as out.

At least it's been that way for me.

Any and ALL help is appreciated.

Network....as you have started to do...it's not who you know..its' who they know...also be bold....attend a journalism, or media conference.....and work the room...there are plenty events in the NYC area.


PS...Networking is not going to networking event....the people there are looking to get on like you....rather attend industry related events. e.g trainings, conferences that draw people already in the field...and always put your best foot forward....invest in two good suits about 250 each, and a decent pair of shoes( DSW & Century 21 both have quality shoes for reasonable prices)


get your suits taken in by a professional tailor...try tailor row on orchard street...


finally google is your new best friend...it will provide your a plethora of info....if you get to the interview stage and need to recap...holla at me (PM)
