adding an additional boost to their front-court. Going from a rebuilding team (with questional Playoff possibilities) to a very good team (with a probable Playoff appearance). Not quite an "outhouse to the penthouse" move( would never characterize the Pistons as as such), but close to it. They signed McDyess for $5.85M (mid level exception). A very good fit. In fact they sought his services before he signed his last contract with the Pistons.
The ever-elusive NBA championship ring will continue to be elusive, but you never know, i.e., opponent injuries, selfishness, attitudes, etc. At least there's a chance. Not much, but 'a chance'. Or as Yogi Berra allegedly said---"...it ain't over til it's over". In the case of the Spurs, it may be too little, too late. Los Angeles Lakers argubly improved better than any other team! Although the Boston Celtics may stil challenge with additions of Rasheed Wallace and Grant Hill. But will K.G. still be as effective, following his knee repair?
All of the good teams got better, this off season. Except the Orlando Magic and --through no fault of their own--the Houston Rockets. Ariza's probably regretting not re-signing with the Lakers. But who knew their (Houston's) big fella would go down.
