Yes, there are other apps that can do this, but there is now an official Google App.

On your tablet or phone, go to Settings, Security, Device Administrators and check the box that says Android Device Manager. Then click on this link.

On Friday, Google addressed a longtime shortcoming of the Android platform – the lack of a built-in “lost phone” application, that would allow users to remotely manage, locate, block, or wipe their misplaced devices. The new app, called Android Device Manager, has already begun to roll out to users, according to various reports on Reddit, XDA, and other forums. The functionality is part of Google Play Services, which means it will be automatically and silently added to all devices running Android 2.2 and higher. To check if the new functionality hit your device, navigate to Settings > Security, where you should find a section called Device Administrators. There, you should see Android Device Manager and other similar apps that you may have installed, such as Cerberus or Lookout. Several redditors posted screenshots of ADM, and the good news is the rollout reports come from all over the world, meaning that the app won’t be restricted to the US, as some have feared. If you can’t wait for the rollout, you can get the new Play Services APK file from this Android Police post, but note that there might be multiple Play Services .apk files floating around, so make sure to update through the official channel once the rollout is widely available. Also note that actually using ADM requires the web interface, which doesn’t appear to be public yet. Android Device Manager lets users remotely locate, erase, or ring a lost or stolen Android device by logging in to a web app on their Google account. While this functionality has long been available on Android through third party apps such as Cerberus, it’s good to see Google making it available to all users, regardless of their tech savvy, and with minimal hassle. As usual, the ADM rollout should take a few days or even a couple of weeks to reach your phone. As AOSP lead Jean Baptiste Queru recently detailed, rollouts initially start slow to allow developers to pinpoint and solve any potential issues before the new software hits a large number of devices.

dizzamn!

I clicked the link and it found me!

I saw the app on the latest set of inverted gApps and kept getting annoyed at it so I deleted this shit, but the browser link found my cell. Cool...

I tried it, it couldn't find me because I have location services set of off, lol.

But I do like that you can change your lock screen password remotely.

Go to Google Settings app, Device Manager, and you will find the settings for this service.

Oh yeah, I knew where it was, I was just saying that so if it's not working for others, they can check this.

But... where is the setting that allows you to change the screen lock passcode remotely? On that link to device manager, I only see Ring and Erase Device.

And anyone else disturbed about this:

Not disturbed at all. This is a functionality that so many have been asking for on Android they would of been remiss to not add it. Its basically an upgrade to the OS so they sent it out.

Still looking into that

Damn! The map might as well have said my phone was in my hand. Shit works.

Said it's gonna erase all my shit without warning? Does it do it when you activate this?
when you press erase, it will ask again if you are sure.
Wont erase shit on an SD card tho..still good info.
thats why i still keep cerberus installed. more features.
What happens when someone steals your phone and turns gps/location services off?

if you have an lock code, how can they turn it off? only way would be to boot into recovery. depends on if the device is rooted or not.

Thanks bruh! This is gold especially since I like to keep my phone my vibrate most of the time.

 Shit is hella accurate. :smh:

If they steal it while you are talking on it (popular in transit systems), they can do it then.

Bruh you not lying. Not only was it able to find what building it is in, but it was also able to tell me what side of the building it was on! Shit's crazy bro.

Update

Back at the beginning of August Google unveiled a new service called "Android Device Manager" that let you locate and remotely wipe your phones and tablets, and now the service is getting a some much-needed refinement. Today Google updated ADM to include options to apply and change lock screen PINs and passwords, adding to the nuclear option of remote wiping the device completely.
Just as we covered when the service launched, enabling ADM is extremely easy. To get started, go to google.com/android/devicemanager on your computer and go through your list of devices that are connected to your Google account. Once there, you can send a notification to the device you want to enable remote password application and wiping on, and you'll be just a few steps away from a much more secure phone.

Simply tap on the notification you receive or manually go to the Google Settings app on your phone, tap on "Android Device Manager" and select the box for "Allow remote lock and factory reset." You'll be given a permission screen (shown above) that lets you know Android Device Manager will now be a "Device Administrator" on your phone — this gives you the proper permissions to be able to manage your device from afar, which is a good thing.
One you've checked the boxes, head back to the ADM web interface and refresh the page, where you'll now see two more options light up under the status of that device. Next to "Ring" you'll now have the new option to "Lock" as well as the old option of "Erase." Clicking on Lock will bring up a dialogue box that lets you enable a PIN or password on your phone, even if you have no security on the phone before that point.
