Keanu Reeves set for 'Bebop'
Actor to star in live-action adaptation of anime

Keanu Reeves is taking on another sci-fi mission for 20th Century Fox. The "Day the Earth Stood Still" star is attached to topline a live-action bigscreen adaptation of the Japanese anime TV series "Cowboy Bebop" for the studio.

Reeves will take on the role of Spike Spiegel, an adventurous bounty hunter traveling through space in 2071.

Story follows the adventures of a group of bounty hunters traveling on their spaceship, the Bebop. Peter Craig has been tapped to write the screenplay.

Sunrise Inc., which produces the anime series, will be closely involved with the development of the English-language project. Sunrise's Kenji Uchida and Shinichiro Watanabe will serve as associate producers alongside series writer Keiko Nobumoto. Series producer Masahiko Minami will serve as a production consultant.

Erwin Stoff ("The Day the Earth Stood Still") is producing through his 3 Arts banner. Joshua Long will exec produce.

The television series first aired on Tokyo TV and Wowow in 1998. It eventually aired in the U.S. as part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block.

his acting will suck but as we saw from the matrix he can handle the kungfu part

i'm interested in seeing the movie i think it might turn out good, it really come down to the co-stars and the story for me, Keanu is a block of wood but in certain movies i don't mind it

And I like Keanu... Pointbreak, Speed, The Matrix and even Constantine but c'mon. There's no telling which direction they'll take the screenplay. Is nothing sacred anymore.

Reeves likes the anime and is therefore gonna help to produce is also, stop fuckin complaining. Be happy that non-anime fans can finally have a taste of bebop.
 
Since Marvel is dicking around Sam Jackson on Nick Fury, maybe they can get him to do Jet Black in this movie

Otherwise, get Vin Diesel, can anyone think better

And plus, the original creators and writers will be there to supervise, so they wont let their prized creation get too fucked up, if at all
 
Damn. I can't see him as Spike personality wise but I'm sure he can pull off the action cuz I doubt it will be anywhere near as complex as Yuen Wo Ping choreography. But his name is gonna bring in the big bucks to get it done. Hope for the best.
 
i don't think it is that bad of a decision.

and at least keanu is a fan of anime. and he knows after the matrix how important it is to the fans to stick to the subject material.
 
yeah lots of cats hate on Neo but if you remember spike dones't do a lot of acting he is like a low key action hero (half the time he is looking away smoking cigs) - I think there would be better people out there either way I don' think you can make this movie the right way even with special effects unless you had like Spielberg or Lucas cause that was like a different UNIVERSE, green screen ain't gonna make it work
 
my first thought is that they gonna fuck this show up sumthin lovely...but i wanna see how its gonna turn out since sunrise will be involved...

Vin Diesel would be perfect. Got the right bass in his voice. Would look dope wearing a mechanical arm to ala babylon a.d.

I don't think Keanu would be that bad but I hate for them to be adapting it live in the first place just leave it. Otherwise Spike was a quiet smooth slick talking character Keanu should be able to pull that off at least. Only thing is will he be able to pull off some of the humorous lines Spike did.

I don't know why but I picture this movie looking like that Speed Racer film visually.
 
Im def gonna pay to see this movie but the whole time im probably gonna be thinking how much better it could have been without Keanu :smh:

Don't care if it's keanu. He isn't the worst actor and one person isn't going to ruin a potentially the film. The directing (director) matters a lot more. I hope they take it in a good direction.

Yeah hopefully they get the original anime director in Shinichirô Watanabe, can't go wrong there.

He'll probably want nothing to do with the movie. He's going to want Ms Kanno and good actors and not just popular ones.

The show was about the music. Every song fits perfectly with the situation on screen. The US studios are going to want a metal soundtrack for action scenes.

You probably right about that. :smh: They'll take out a lot of the Jazz music for the entire movie.

As soon as I heard about this i thought that it was a huge mistake. I wonder why they chose him. A whole bunch of more qualified actors must have turned it down.
