Google has a habit of abandoning projects, but when Amazon builds technology, they are usually good about supporting it so guaranteed once its here, its here to stay.
The fear associated with this questions whether the abilities of this technology would be accepted in the future to validate the mistreatment of an individual because of "intent" rather than proven actions. Can a policeman subdue or kill an individual and use the softwaresas validation that the person had an aggressive "intent".
The controversy is whether having your actions read are an invasion of privacy. The way I feel is that no one has a right to the thoughts that I don't publicly display.
This software however, was not created on the basis of law enforcement. This is actually created with retail ad tech in mind for Amazon to sell more stuff. They want to be able to read a persons emotions when served with an ad. If the ad triggers an emotion of curiosity and interest, they will then serve up another ad giving you more information and the opportunity to purchase. That is its true purpose.
Sure it can be used for good... but we all know that it wont be.
