Amazon’s YouTube app on Fire TV stops working ahead of schedule (12/28 update)

Amazon has already deactivated its YouTube app on Fire TV devices, four days before a planned blockade by Google. Instead of opening YouTube directly, the app now encourages users to install Silk or Firefox, and will open a link to the site once either browser is installed.

Google has said it will cut off YouTube access on Fire TV starting January 1, citing Amazon’s unwillingness to support Prime Video on Chromecast, or to sell Google hardware (including Chromecast) on its website. The companies say they’re having productive discussions, and Amazon now has a product listing up for Chromecast, but the YouTube app’s deactivation suggests an agreement isn’t imminent. It’s unclear if Amazon’s browser workaround will continue to work in the New Year. We’ve asked both companies for comment.

On fire TV, I downloaded Firefox browser. YouTube access still with no problem. Not sure if Firestick works the same way.

Yeah I couldn't either. My grandson watches it via firestick all the time. But I just bought a new TV so I was able to go that route.

i've had firefox & chrome side-loaded onto my fire-tvs for a while now

have to use a mouse to navigate though

just update to the new firefox apk

like the new version a lot better, because i can use the remote to navigate

didn't like the silk browser with its ties to microsoft though, and will uninstall it later

I bought my daughter a kids fire tab and sent that bitch right back and got the kids 7.0 samsung joint which seems a lot better. She loves YouTube, they need to squash this bullshit
