High school basketball phenom Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA superstar Gilbert Arenas, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after crashing his Tesla Cybertruck early Thursday morning ... TMZ Sports has learned.

It's unclear what caused the wreck, but the luxury vehicle was completely mangled on the side of the road of a Los Angeles neighborhood based on images we have viewed.

We're told emergency responders raced to the scene at 4:55 AM -- after fire personnel responded to a "trapped patient" ... but when help arrived, everyone inside the vehicle had already made it out.

We're told the front of the car was ablaze ... and an approximately 18-year-old was taken to the hospital in "serious condition."

According to ESPN, 18-year-old Arenas was placed into an induced coma.

DAD'S STILL GOT IT TMZSports.com

Back in November, we spoke with Gilbert and Alijah ... and the latter joked his three-time All-Star dad avoided one-on-one matchups due to his polished skills on the court.

Gilbert was slated to appear on his "Gil's Arena" podcast on Thursday ... but the show has since been canceled following the news.

Tin Foil Kufi Take: Teslas are used by the intelligence agencys to target individuals whom the government doesnt like. How can it just run off the road hit a fire hydrant and put coma inducing gas into the cab. I thought Tesla CyberTrucks come equipped with the best security systems of any vehicle on the planet. Arent there like 7 Camera's inside the vehicle, doesnt it come equipped with auto pilot. Isnt the truck armored and can withstand bullets?

I think it's about the Tesla man

If you click on his Twitter you'll see a Tesla in the background

I thought it was odd he said this is the first Cybertruck incident I've seen
Wow.. :smh: I would laugh at that level of fanboy insanity if the subject matter wasnt so somber. I assumed he was aware who the victim was and didnt want to assist TMZ's trauma porn bullshit.

The most dangerous thing we do everyday is get into 4,000 lb missiles around other people and their 4,000 lb missiles. Every day we get in our car and make it to our destination and back is a true miracle we don't even think about.

Just yesterday I was driving and an 18-wheeler crossed into my lane with no turn signal and no warning. Luckily for me the lane to my left was open and I was able to avoid that potentially deadly accident. I see accidents far too often and it's scary. So many people not using turn signals, so many people not using mirrors, so many people not paying attention.

I hope this young man's all right
