-- The Sheriff's Department has confirmed it was Baldwin who pulled the trigger during the gun accident. 42-year-old director of photography Halyna Hutchins tragically died from her injuries, and director Joel Souza is currently at a hospital getting treatment for his.

Cops say no charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains active.

-- The 42-year-old director of photography died from her injuries ... according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office.

Alec Baldwin was filming a scene for a movie that required someone to fire a gun loaded with blanks, but when the gun discharged either shrapnel or a bullet hit 2 people on set ... one of whom had to be airlifted to a hospital.

Our sources tell us the incident happened Thursday on location in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Alec is filming a new western he's starring in called "Rust" at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a movie ranch.

We're told Alec was filming the scene when someone pulled the prop gun's trigger. It's unclear if the person who loaded the gun mistakenly placed bullets inside, or if something was lodged in the barrel that hit the director as well as the director of photography.

Our sources say the director was hit in the clavicle, but the DP wasn't so lucky ... she was airlifted and rushed to a hospital. As for Alec, we're told he was not injured.

Earlier Thursday, he posted a pic of himself in character on the set. After the accident, we're told production shut down for the day.

Local sheriff's deputies are on the scene already and they've launched an investigation.

I wonder if he was being reckless with the gun.

Wonder if she took a head shot.

Fucked up all the way around.

Nah this isn't on him.

You can't be reckless with the gun if its loaded with blanks as it should have been.
A prop gun is still a real gun.

You absolutely can be reckless with one loaded with blanks. there still is gunpowder in those blanks.

Not saying Baldwin is to blame, but he could have been reckless. You should always treat a gun, prop gun or not, as if it has a live round in the chamber.

I hear you but I'm thinking this was a close up scene of him pointing the gun and shooting into the camera which could explain why the cinematographer and director were shot in which case it would be on the prop guys.

Even if Baldwin was being reckless and fucking around it would still be on the prop guys IMO.

Ah, I see what you mean. Didn’t think about him shooting into the camera.

Oh no doubt. Whomever was in charge with maintaining the prop weaponry is done. Career over and more than likely catching a charge.

Alec Baldwin ‘Rust’ Movie Halting For “Undetermined Period Of Time”; Production “Devastated” By DP Tragedy

Following Alec Baldwin’s discharge of a prop gun on the set of his movie Rust at Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico today, which resulted in killing the pic’s DP Halyna Hutchins, 42, and injuring the film’s director Joel Souza, 48, the production tonight has released the following statement, expressing their condolences and pausing production for an undetermined amount of time.

“The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones,” said a spokesperson for Rust Movies Productions LLC

“We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation,” the statement continued.

“We will be providing counseling services to everyone connected to the film as we work to process this awful event.”

Previously tonight the Sante Fe Sheriff’s Department told Deadline that a prop firearm was discharged by the Oscar nominee on a film he co-wrote and produced and starred in, killing Hutchins and injuring Souza.

“Mr. Baldwin was questioned by investigators and released,” said a Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department official. “No arrests or charges have been filed.”

“This investigation remains open and active. No charges have been filed in regard to this incident. Witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.”

I just briefly read what happened in the Brandon Lee shooting and it said that the accident happened due to the prop guys taking the gun powder out of real bullets and then reinserting the bullet which they did due to time/budget constraints not realizing the bullet still had enough gun powder to fire :smh:

Hopefully some shit like that didn't happen in this case.

Didn't this happen to Brandon Lee on The Crow back in the day?
This shit is horrible. Feel bad for everyone involved. WTF, how is Hollywood still using prop guns with blanks today? With all the advances in special effects?

CGI that shit.
Remember back in the day when Jon Eric Hexum was playing Russian roulette on the set of that show Cover-Up..he put the prop gun to his temple and fired at point blank range :smh:

"While film and movie shoots generally have extensive safety rules in place, there have been several instances of serious or fatal accidents on sets involving prop firearms."

"Actor Brandon Lee, the son of Bruce Lee, was killed during the filming of "The Crow" in 1993 when he was shot with an improperly loaded prop gun."

"Actor Jon-Erik Hexum died in 1984 when he was playing around with a prop gun on a TV set and fired it at his head, unaware that blanks can be dangerous at close range. "
