Alabama football coach Nick Saban hasn't officially named Bryce Young the Crimson Tide's starting quarterback, and yet Saban says that Young is already approaching $1 million in endorsement deals.

According to reports, Saban told the Texas High School Coaches Association's convention on Tuesday that Young, a sophomore, is due to make "ungodly numbers."

While Saban wouldn't divulge the specifics of the deals Young has signed, Saban said the total compensation is "almost seven figures."

"And it's like, the guy hasn't even played yet," Saban said, according to The Athletic. "But that's because of our brand."

Asked at SEC Media Days about Young's potential compensation, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said, "That number just blew me away.

"He's made $1 million, and he hasn't started a game yet. Wow."

"That's great for him," Kiffin added, then later joked, "He definitely doesn't need to play against us this year."

Young signed a deal to be represented by Creative Artists Agency on July 2 -- the day after the NCAA allowed athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness.

So far, Young's only public endorsement has been in the form of a tweet for the company Cash App.

A former five-star prospect, Young spent last season as the primary backup to starting quarterback Mac Jones, who was drafted in the first round by the New England Patriots.

While Young hasn't been named the starter heading into this season, he's the presumptive favorite to earn the position after leading the first-team offense in April's spring game.

Young appeared in nine games last season, completing 13 of 22 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown.

Alabama is scheduled to open the season against Miami on Sept. 4.

Saban sound salty. All that money he's made without playing a down for Bama either.

By the way I saw the SEC schools get a big cut of whatever the kids earn so best believe they will continue to take under the table money.
Why would Saban be salty?

That's true, but Saban will tell you he put in that work to get that. This kid just got a Regents diploma from high school. They're not the same.
Saban only care about winning and he will use that on a recruiting call. “Hey you can get a million and without a single snap”

any player good enough to benefit from NIL now was getting paid under the table then. Like coaches passing out envelopes with money after games.

True but we talking legal money

and also creating a proven endorsement history for later in their careers potentially

which could be very lucrative

Decade long relationships outside the sport

I don’t know about later in their careers as opposed to later in their life. There are plenty of players that are local legends but do not cause a blip on the radar nationally. If a Point Guard at Kentucky doesn’t have much of a pro career but hits the game winning shot to win a national championship, the relationships they build with local businesses can keep a solid income stream coming in for years. I don’t expect many athletes to hit for a lick, but I think many will make their overall lives better

Man oh man...

I know some former players pissed...

Should have unified earlier when O'Bannon started this.

Hell yeah they are. Reggie Bush got paid but he woulda been a multi millionaire no doubt at USC. College football had actual stars that woulda made serious bank...big names like Johnny Manziel, Tebow, and Clowney. They'll still get paid but I can't really think of any superstars in football or hoops coming up

Why would Saban be salty?
Because Saban's not getting a cut. As one of the highest paid public officials in the state, he's twisted because this kid hasn't proven himself at the college level.

Now that this thing has come to fruition, I’m not sure I completely agree w it anymore.

Take an 18 yo away from their parents and put them on a campus w all these chicks and bad influences and a milly.

I hope these kids can keep the focus. Broke “student-athletes” were hardly doing shi+ before this.

Now these cats gonna be pulling up on campus in a Ferrari. I just think it’s easier to keep kids in line who dream of a milly.

Wonder how the coach/“rich-athlete” dynamic is gonna work.

Carry on…….

I believe this will make these kids more mature.

They've been public figures since middle school but they weren't getting paid for it.

Now they have a financial incentive to remain a role model on and off the field.

I believe some of the kids that don't get NIL deals will end up turning the money their teammates are making into business opportunities for themselves.

How long before some of these players start making more money than the coaches and start telling the coach to fuck off.
