After seeing the Supreme Court decision regarding Aereo, I propose a new way to free up our local airways which will reduce scarcity which drives up the price that wireless companies have to pay. The scarcity is caused by inefficient planning by the government resulting in wireless bills that are excessive and data caps. These data caps hinder technology innovation and growth, as well as the excessive price. A significant component of this price that we pay is derived from the auctions that wireless providers have to participate in to buy spectrum which is used to offer wireless service. Many of these companies pay billions of dollars to the federal government to own wireless spectrum that get passed on to you, limiting access for the poor.

1.The government or a private entity can put a satellite into space to broadcast local content. The satellite can be used to broadcasts 4K content to consumers. This is already done by DirecTV and Dish TV. This entity can also work with these companies to coordinate this broadcast so that it can be incorporated into their equipment. A pizza sized dish or smaller is all that a citizen would require to access this content. I have accessed local feeds, many of the content is the same, it would increase the efficiency of broadcasting this content tremendously.

2.Moving local radio stations to satellite. A GPS chip can provide the applicable local content based on location.

3.Require cable companies as a condition for operating in the area to connect every household that has electricity service. If we can put an electrical cable to a house, we can also wire a fiber-optic cable to provide local content to a person. This would be advantageous to a cable company because it moves them one step closer to their product. Where all a person have to do to get full cable service is to make a call.

4. Finally, if the satellite and fiber optic cable does not satisfy your needs, we can offer IPTV content through free mobile broadband type service.

5. Many people are forgoing cable and tying up bandwidth accessing the internet with their phone. Having a basic free internet service with local channels would decrease the need for spectrum even further.

We have all this new technology that didn’t exist when rabbit ears were used to broadcast TV. We also did not have smart phones, laptops, and tablets that require access to the Internet at all times. Now that we have a general idea of where things are going we should enact a new law similar to what President Clinton did with establishing high definition TV broadcasts that are digital. A corporate propaganda channel such as NBC or Fox broadcast on frequencies that transmits only a fraction of what is possible. It be similar to a maglev train traveling at only 30 mph when it can go 300 mph. In other countries, such as South Korea they have data speeds that are many times faster than the United States. 5G technology can transmit at gigabit speeds.

Ask yourself this, do we need to have mobile TV content? How many people carry a 50" TV around? We should not hijack our airwaves for those few people that need to carry a TV around.

Legislation like this would spur innovation and create millions of jobs. The cost of cell phone service would drop dramatically since the scarcity of wireless spectrum would go away, allowing more people to have affordable cell phone service, mobile data plans, mobile broadband, connected cars, and other things. It would allow more companies to enter the market and compete with other providers, decreasing prices.

It would also solve the problem of the lack of minority ownership of TV and radio stations says the barrier to entry will be much lower. This will allow more content which will create choice rather than some billionaire like Rupert Murdoch deciding what I should see.

Look at the big chunks of spectrum that TV and radio broadcasts use, let them broadcast from a high frequency satellite signal.

Question: The wireless spectrum is owned by the public. We should charge the wireless providers such as Verizon and AT&T for its use.

Answer: Any costs that the these companies pay will be passed on to you. Especially, a service that is used by millions of people. If the government raises billions of dollars, it is a hidden tax on you through your wireless bill.

Grazing Fees (Cliven Bundy)
Oil Lease Fees

We should give temporarily wireless spectrum to companies that offers the best technology and most efficient use of the wireless spectrum at the cheapest price. Every ten years, the wireless spectrum is put up for auction based on what company has the best technology.

By imposing these targeted costs, it could also be a way to censor information for certain segments of the population who would be unable to afford this service. They would be forced to listen to fixed broadcasts of corporate media. No different than Cuba or North Korea blocking access to the Internet. We should not accept having content chosen by us based on the amount of money raised.

Congested cell towers and throttling? Excessively high cell phone bills...Data caps...Local TV being broadcasted three times (Dish, Directv, and rabbit ears)

The poor unable to access the internet and forced to watch corporate propaganda that tell them to attack me. Billionaires buying up our airwaves and controlling what we hear and see that pass the cost to you...

Finally, the lack of jobs and innovations such as a smart radio that can purchase and download a song heard.

Just imagine if the government had a newspaper auction, that raised $20 billion dollars, instead of taxing the rich. The price of a newspaper jumps to $20 a day. Only the rich can afford to be informed. We would effectively be censored and only an elite could read.

An alternative is an outlet controlled by billionaires, who broadcast that working for a $1 a day is great. Unions are bad for business and unrestrained free trade is wonderful.

They took some heat from my thread and they folded up. This spectrum scarcity crap to juice up the auctions which are a tax is not going to fly with the public.

Perhaps the most notable spectrum innovation being advanced by the Commission is the world’s first voluntary incentive auction, which will use market forces to repurpose spectrum in the TV band so that the spectrum can be used by wireless providers.

"I tried to tell the President as plainly as possibly that we had better start getting ready for this mobile broadband technologies"

The high frequency millimeter wave technology should be interesting to see if it works for 5G. I like to see all the local TV broadcasted as FTA from space.

The future is looking bright now...

It looks like action is being taken to alleviate spectrum 'shortage' which is used to raise billions of dollars through auctions that pass the costs to you with higher bills. The FCC is starting to look at the type of technology that companies are using, rather than just accepting a big check from an auction. I noticed the EU has published a report recently.

Since a tablet and mobile internet connection will probably be how we get information and the elections are coming, we need to communicate with your politicians who will be most receptive about ridding this secret tax of billions of dollars. It is a tax on free speech, innovation, and freedom of the press now that our mobile broadband connections are becoming our primary gateway of information when we leave our house.

I want to get my information from a major newspaper, owned by a billionaire and from a blogger who works off of donations. I want to ride in my car and listen to my choice of thousands of channels that might cover a workers strike, rather than Clear Channel that may just play music.

I don't think there is a spectrum shortage, we need to dump local TV on a satellite like they do in Germany, whose viewership will slowly decline over time.
