LOS ANGELES -- Lisa Leslie will return to the Los Angeles Sparks in May for the start of the 2008 season after sitting out last summer to give birth to a baby girl.
The team announced Leslie's return on Thursday, along with its summer schedule.
Leslie, who gave birth to Lauren Jolie Lockwood on June 25, resumed playing basketball with the U.S. national team in late October. The WNBA will take a break July 28-Aug. 27 so league players can represent their countries at the Beijing Olympics.
The league MVP in 2006, Leslie won gold medals with the U.S. team at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics.
Los Angeles will open the WNBA season with a five-game road trip starting May 17 in Phoenix. The home opener will be a rematch with the Mercury on June 6 at Staples Center.
The Sparks own the No. 1 pick in the spring draft.
