Adele rekindles friendship with ex who inspired her chart-topping songs

alg_adele.jpg

Few people are able to turn pain into a multi-platinum record.

But for British chart topper Adele, the mystery man who broke her heart can be credited for her huge success off her critically-acclaimed album, "21."

After countless times belting out her gut-wrenching breakup songs like "Rolling In the Deep" and "Someone Like You," the Grammy-award winner is now ready let bygones be bygones.

She recently told the UK's The Independent that she and her ex are now on friendly terms.

"We're becoming friends again," she said. "It's alright; I know what I'm doing. Enough time has gone by."

"He changed my life, I can't deny that," she added. "The album helped me get over splitting up with my boyfriend. It helped me forgive [him] and I hope that he has forgiven himself."

She continued to explain the importance of sharing her success with her ex, saying, "Now with what's going on with the album around the world, it's important to be able to share it with him because it's marvelous what has happened."

"21" has sold over 10 million copies to date.

2012 Grammys: Adele may be rollin’ in the 'bleep!'
Singer, rebounding from throat surgery, says she could 'curse' the Grammy Awards

By Tracy Connor / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

The Grammy censors better be ready to hit the bleep button — singer Adele, who is nominated for six awards, admits she curses like a sailor.

In fact, when she couldn’t talk after throat surgery in November she searched for an app that would speak what she typed, four-letter words and all.

“I love to swear,” she said in an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes.”

“Most of the [apps] you can’t swear on, but I found this one app where you can swear, so I’m still really getting my point across.”

She may want to save a few of her choicest words for Karl Lagerfeld, the cadaverous Chanel designer who sniped this week that she was “a little too fat.”

The 23-year-old tells People magazine she has no issues with her full figure.

“I’ve never wanted to look like a model on the covers of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that,” she said.

“I’d lose weight if I was an actress and had to play a role where you’re supposed to be 40 pounds lighter, but weight has nothing to do with my career.

“Even when I was signing [a contract\], most of the industry knew if anyone ever dared say [lose weight\] to me, they wouldn’t be working with me.”

And they’d be regretting it.

The smoky-voiced Brit’s sophomore album, “21,” has taken up residence at the top of the Billboard chart is the Grammy favorite for Record of the Year and Album of the Year.

She is slated to perform at Sunday’s awards show, her first public gig since her voice was silenced by a hemorrhaging polyp on her vocal cord while singing live on the radio.

“It felt like something popped in my throat,” she told “60 Minutes.”

She had laser surgery but said she could reinjue her vocal cords if she overuses them.

“If I decide to go on a 200-date world tour, it would happen again,” she said.

Scaling back will give her more time to achieve one of her other goals. Adele, who is dating 36-year-old financier turned charity chief Simon Konecki, told People she wants to have three kids by the time she’s 30.

“I really want to be a mum,” she said. “I better start getting on with it.”

Adele the belle of the ball
Triumphs at Grammys after throat surgery

GRAMMY AWARDS

She was rolling in awards.

Adele — the British neo-soul singer who made her triumphant return to the stage at the Grammy’s last night — was a big winner at a subdued ceremony where everyone’s minds were on the sudden passing of Whitney Houston.

Adele went six for six in awards — tying Beyoncé’s record for most wins by a female artist — and performed for the first time since undergoing throat surgery last fall.

She had the crowd at the packed Staples Center in LA — which included such legends as Paul McCartney — standing and clapping along as she belted out a flawless version of her hit “Rolling in the Deep.”

Adele, who won in such categories as Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance, broke down after taking the night’s biggest prize, Album of the Year.

Fighting through tears, she first thanked her mom and then said her album “21” — the best seller of 2011 with 6 million sold — was “inspired by something that is really normal. . .just a rubbish relationship.”

Earlier, the 23-year-old wonder thanked the doctors “who brought my voice back.”

A polyp had ruptured on one of her vocal cords, forcing her to cancel amuch-anticipated US tour and undergo surgery in November.

She also snagged the statue for Best Short Form Music Video.

Besides Adele, the night’s other big winner were The Foo Fighters. The band took home five awards, including Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, Best Rock Song, for “Walk,” which was off their album “Wasting Light,” winner for Best Rock Album.

“This is a great honor because. . .rather than go to the best studio . . . we made this one in my garage,” said frontman Dave Grohlas the band accepted Best Rock Performance.

“Long live rock and roll!” he shouted as his speech was cut short.

They also won Best Long Form Music Video.

The show kicked off with Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band playing their new single, “We Take Care of Our Own.”

Also in the veteran-rocker category, the Beach Boys reunited for their 50th anniversary to perform their classic “Good Vibrations.”

Katy Perry performed “Part of Me,” which could have been considered a dig at her ex-hubby, Russell Brand, with its chorus: “This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me.”

In an outrageous nod to her own new song, “Roman Holiday,” rapper Nicki Minaj showed up dressed as a cardinal and brought along an elderly man to play the pope.

Perhaps the night’s biggest winners were wide receivers Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz of the Super Bowl champion Giants.

As they presented an award, Cruz was goaded by “N.C.I.S.” actress Pauley Perrette to break out his signature salsa moves.

“OK, OK — let’s save for it for the field,” Manningham said to cut him off.

Adele: ‘People think that I’m f—ing miserable’ but ‘I’m done with being a bitter witch’

Winner of six Grammys tells Vogue she's finished making breakup records; calls boyfriend 'wonderful'

image.jpg

Though she famously channels her angst and emotion into her songs, Adele is done being a “bitter witch.”

The 23-year-old crooner, who took home six Grammys at Sunday’s award show, claims she will write bleeding-heart lyrics no more.

“Come on! I’m wifey material! I’m great. No one’s got to be brave. It’s not like, ‘You f— me over and I’m going to write a record and make you the most hated man in the world,’ ” she told the March issue of Vogue. “I am never writing a breakup record again, by the way. I’m done with being a bitter witch.”

But the British singer, who rose to fame in 2008 with hits “Hometown Glory” and “Chasing Pavements,” delivered such a powerful rendition of her driving “Rolling in the Deep” at Sunday night’s ceremony that she may just have to rethink her comments.

“People think that I’m f—ing miserable,” she told the magazine about misconceptions that have arisen from her success. “They are really surprised when they meet me that I’m chatty and bubbly and kind of quite carefree really. I’m the total opposite of my records.”

One man that has captured Adele’s attention: current boyfriend, charity CEO Simon Konecki.

“He’s wonderful,” she said of her publicity-shy beau. “He’s proud of me, but he don’t care about what I do or what other people think. He looks after me. I don’t think I would have gotten through the recovery for my surgery if it hadn't been for him.”

The singer had been suffering from the occasional sore throat during performances starting last January, but the problems eventually revealed themselves to be a hemorrhage on her vocal cord.
“I knew my voice was in trouble,” she said about hearing the bad news, “and obviously I cried a lot. But crying is really bad for your vocal cords, too!”

The music community immediately showed an outpouring of concern and advice, with boldfaced names like Steve Tyler, Elton John and John Mayer reassuring her of the throat surgery she’d have to undergo.

“When I met him, I loved him,” she said of Boston’s Steven Zeitels, M.D., the man whose magic skills she’d later thank in her Grammys acceptance speech.

Thankfully, Adele’s voice has been back to its powerful self since her Nov. 3 surgery, which will allow her to continue following in the footsteps of her musical idol: Beyoncé.

“I love how all of her songs are about empowerment,” the spunky songstress said. “Even when she’s married and Jay-Z put a ring on it, she releases ‘Single Ladies.’ Go get yours. Go get what you deserve.

Staten Island's Denise Bestman, 11, enjoys moment in Grammy spotlight

Chorus girl appears in Target ad singing Adele's 'Rolling in the Deep'

Denise Bestman, a former chorus member at PS 22 on Staten Island, belts out song by Adele in a Target ad.

A Staten Island girl didn’t make it to the Grammy stage, but in her home, she was still the star of the show.

Denise Bestman, 11, made a television splash Sunday night, singing Adele’s hit song “Rolling in the Deep” in a Target ad to promote the pop star’s new album.

“I was speechless,” said Denise, a former member of the chorus at Public School 22. “I didn’t know what to say.”

The silence faded. Then she and her mom, Dextina Lincoln, let loose.

“We both started screaming,” Lincoln said. “She was saying, ‘Oh, my God, I can’t believe it’s me. I can’t believe it’s me.’ It was amazing.”

Target officials first spotted Denise in a PS 22 performance of Adele’s song that has more than a million hits on YouTube, choral director Gregg Breinberg said.

The director praised Denise’s performance in the commercial, which featured her singing in a city bus.

“She was amazing. She looked amazing,” Breinberg said of the sixth-grader, who now attends Intermediate School 51. “She sounded amazing. She did us proud.”

“Next step — she’ll be on the Grammys accepting an award and someone will be singing her song in a commercial,” he added. “With Denise, it would not surprise me.”

Though she was one of 64 students from PS 22 to perform at the Oscars last February,

Denise, whose favorite song is Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain,” has yet to meet the newly minted Grammy winner. She still hopes to.

Denise, whose relatives nicknamed her “Denise Star,” said she probably began singing the day she was born. And she hasn’t stopped singing since.

“I sing almost every day — at school, at home, outside. I sing when I’m bored,” she said.

“When I’m reading, I sometimes sing the words out,” she added. “Sometimes reading is boring. I sing to make it more amusing.”

The Man Who Inspired Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ Revealed?
ht_slinky_winfield_dm_120216_wblog.jpg

It’s no secret that Adele mined her love life to pen her Grammy-winning album 21, but there have been no details about the guy who broke the singer’s heart and inspired all those songs — until now.

A source told the New York Post that the alleged cad is a man named Slinky Winfield. Also known as Slinky Sunbeam, the 25-year-old musician was fingered as the inspiration for the 21 songs including “Rolling in the Deep,” and “Someone Like You.” Though Adele has indicated that she and the man who inspired those songs simply “grew apart,” the source tells the Post that the romance failed because Slinky got involved with a Burberry model named Morwenna Lytton Cobbold.

“Adele likes to keep part of her life back for herself, but it’s an open secret that Slinky was the guy who inspired 21,” the source told the Post, describing him as a “seriously good-looking guy…(with) a great body” and “crazy hair (like) Jimi Hendrix” who was “the life and soul of the party.” The source goes on to say, “It’s easy to see what attracted Adele to him,” but noted that the relationship “was always going to end in tears, and those tears were always going to be Adele’s.”

Adele has since said that she’s forgiven Mr. 21, Slinky or otherwise. She’s also moved on and is now dating Simon Konecki, a 36-year-old divorced entrepreneur who now heads the charity Drop4Drop.
