Triumphs at Grammys after throat surgery
GRAMMY AWARDS
She was rolling in awards.
Adele — the British neo-soul singer who made her triumphant return to the stage at the Grammy’s last night — was a big winner at a subdued ceremony where everyone’s minds were on the sudden passing of Whitney Houston.
Adele went six for six in awards — tying Beyoncé’s record for most wins by a female artist — and performed for the first time since undergoing throat surgery last fall.
She had the crowd at the packed Staples Center in LA — which included such legends as Paul McCartney — standing and clapping along as she belted out a flawless version of her hit “Rolling in the Deep.”

Adele, who won in such categories as Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance, broke down after taking the night’s biggest prize, Album of the Year.
Fighting through tears, she first thanked her mom and then said her album “21” — the best seller of 2011 with 6 million sold — was “inspired by something that is really normal. . .just a rubbish relationship.”
Earlier, the 23-year-old wonder thanked the doctors “who brought my voice back.”
A polyp had ruptured on one of her vocal cords, forcing her to cancel amuch-anticipated US tour and undergo surgery in November.
She also snagged the statue for Best Short Form Music Video.
Besides Adele, the night’s other big winner were The Foo Fighters. The band took home five awards, including Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, Best Rock Song, for “Walk,” which was off their album “Wasting Light,” winner for Best Rock Album.
“This is a great honor because. . .rather than go to the best studio . . . we made this one in my garage,” said frontman Dave Grohlas the band accepted Best Rock Performance.

“Long live rock and roll!” he shouted as his speech was cut short.
They also won Best Long Form Music Video.
The show kicked off with Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band playing their new single, “We Take Care of Our Own.”
Also in the veteran-rocker category, the Beach Boys reunited for their 50th anniversary to perform their classic “Good Vibrations.”
Katy Perry performed “Part of Me,” which could have been considered a dig at her ex-hubby, Russell Brand, with its chorus: “This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me.”
In an outrageous nod to her own new song, “Roman Holiday,” rapper Nicki Minaj showed up dressed as a cardinal and brought along an elderly man to play the pope.
Perhaps the night’s biggest winners were wide receivers Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz of the Super Bowl champion Giants.
As they presented an award, Cruz was goaded by “N.C.I.S.” actress Pauley Perrette to break out his signature salsa moves.
“OK, OK — let’s save for it for the field,” Manningham said to cut him off.
