Accidental Drug Mix Said to Kill Levert
CLEVELAND — R&B singer Gerald Levert's death last fall was an accident caused by a fatal combination of prescription narcotics and over-the-counter drugs, a coroner said.

The drugs in his bloodstream included the narcotic pain relievers Vicodin, Percocet and Darvocet, along with anxiety medication Xanax and two over-the-counter antihistamines, Geauga County Coroner Kevin Chartrand said. The official cause of death was acute intoxication, and the death was ruled accidental.

Chartrand said his office received a report Thursday from the Cuyahoga County coroner's office, which conducted the autopsy.

Levert, 40, son of O'Jays singer Eddie Levert, died Nov. 10 in his suburban Cleveland home. He was a member of the R&B trio LeVert, whose hits included "(Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop) Goes My Mind" and "Casanova." He sold millions of albums and had numerous hits over his career.

His soulful voice powered his appeal and in 1991 he made his solo debut with the album "Private Line." That included a hit duet with his dad, "Baby Hold on to Me."

Andy Gibson, a family spokesman, said Levert was taking the pain medication because of chronic pain from a lingering shoulder problem and surgery in 2005 to repair a severed Achilles tendon. The autopsy revealed that Levert had pneumonia.

Levert also took Xanax for anxiety attacks, Gibson said.

Damn! When will people learn that you can't put all this poison in your body!!!??? A talented life is gone and it could have been avoided. :(

damn, i was prescribed xanax for anxiety a few years back, im glad i never filled that prescription!

Man this is why i don't touch any drugs that supposedly help the mind, them shits give you more problems than they solve. If theres any medication am taking its for something thats biological not psychological. Theres ways to handle anxiety or depression

Vicodin is something harsh. It sure seems like a "drug of choice" the past 1/2 decade or so. Same shit fucked with Mathers on the addiction side of life in recent years.

I was in a car accident a few years back and had a prescription for Percocet, which is stronger than Vicodin. For it's intended purpose, that shit is lovely. But, you can't just keep taking it like tictacs after you recover. I still have half a bottle of percocet in my freezer...

Negro killed himself on a drug cocktail. When will people learn, you can't mix all those medications without checking with your Dr. for possible interaction issues.

No doubt Anna Nicole Smilth will probably have a similar diagnosis.

I agree 100%!! I try to tell this to everyone I know that is thinking about taking anti-depressents(sp?). Medication for altering your mind is NOT normal! And as we are seeing in the last 6 months is starting to look more and more dangerous.

You guys are all assuming that he knowingly took these himself...damn the report, what if it was foul play?

Tru talk!

Also, people need to understand that Big Pharm don't give a fugh about curing your azz. They just want to sustain you so you keep comming back it is a crackhead/dealer relationship. And to make it more horrific the FDA has long bowed to the Big Pharm lobbyist to relax validation requirements. Don't think it is a coincidence when a new drug is released only to be followed by death and lawsuites because that shat wasn't properly tested for human use.

Ok we all love Gerald Levert, myself included. The brother was talented, but we also know not to mix all of those painkillers together, especially with any kind of antihistamines. So how do you accidentally take all of that shit. 3 kinds of prescrption painkillers? I mean c'mon. Was he hooked on painkillers, taking that shit then took the antihistamines because he had pneumonia. You are usually perscribed one kind of pain pill to handle all pain, so why all the diffrent kinds of pills.

Yeah... it was probably a russian spy.....

or maybe one of his 7 babies mamas... :puke: :puke: :puke:

You can't overlook all the possibilities... thats why they call it reasonable doubt...

Its a lot easier to promote conspiracy theories rather than admit the man was just playing stupid games with his prescription drugs.....

Heres a Uk documentary on a drug called seroxat and how the major pharmaceutical companies hid the dangers of it for profit

Interesting that you say it like that....

considering that marijuana and alcohol are also mind altering drugs..

.our society is becoming increasingly stressful because it moves so fast.. it seems people are moving away from the traditional methods for alleviating stress to prescription drugs... its all the same in the end.

Are both Percocet and Vicodin widely known to be readily abused? Seems like both come up a fair bit.

This is happens a lot more often then one would think but the Big pharms do a great job of covering it up.

If any thing can be learned from Levert's death is to be mindful of the stuff you put into your bodies even if a physician says it is ok. Get a second and third opinion if your health detoriates to the point that it becomes necessary to take any prescribe medication.

I wouldn't say the weight idea is bullshit because being heavier adds stress to your bones and muscles, including the most important muscle....your heart.

So if you add that to prescription drug use, high alcohol intake, etc. you could easily create a lethal combination.
