Is anyone on this board an experienced copy editor?
Y'all know I'm working on my novel. I found a copy editor, but the critiques I got back kinda left me a bit more than apprehensive.
I've been bothered by a critique I got back from the editor
She used "physically cringing" and "made me a little nauseous" "it didn't read as fun, or interesting" when I detailed graphic sex scenes.
It reminded me of a conversation I had with a white person who watches Insecure on HBO. She said, "Do black people really fuck like that" after watching Lawrence get his grove back in seasons 2 & 3.
Beyond my own experiences, my muse didn't feel that way as it was her story of sorts.
While I didn't get the story from her verbatim, I used artistic creativity, in espousing the events that took place.
My muse said she fucked this dude 2 times that day, that he was around 11" and a little bit bigger than her husband.
When she got home, later on that night she fucked her husband, too.
But beyond that she went on to explain, " the vagina is typically only three to six inches long, though possibly 7 to 8 in for some, making it impossible for Diana to take all of Brian without serious physical damage to her cervix that would result in a tremendous amount of pain and risk requiring surgery.
After Diana being able to have round after round after round without somehow being at least very sore and then somehow fingerings herself in the shower, having sex with her husband and then touching herself again unless than 24 hours (somehow all without any discomfort or pain).
"I was physically cringing through the vast majority of their time together and after. In addition Brian's blatant ignorance of Diana's attempts to say no and his forcing her to continue and subjecting her to unsolicited and non-consenting dominance coupled with how Diana somehow only walked away from the situation with mere guilt having cheated at all... it's all incredibly uncomfortable and genuinely made me a little nauseous."
I've gone to Lifestyle parties and seen women Take Five Guys one after the other and sometimes at the same time. IJS, these guys ain't small.
I don't know how y'all do it, but I get it in when I fucks. Well I can and will add some discomfort and more grief and guilt having cheated, she went on to say, "It read like physical and psychological abuse, without any of the actual consequences that would come from that experience. In fact it was written in a mostly glorifying manner.
If Diana were to experience some of the actual consequences from her affair with brian, however that would drastically change the vibe of the story for the better."
I wasn't the writing about love making, I was writing about fucking. Revenge fucking because the person who you trusted was fucking somebody else.
It was a bit grandiose and over the top of course, it's a graphic sex novel, but she eviscerated it, saw absolutely no joy in it and while I'm writing about a scorned woman getting Dickmatized, she went on to say that my protagonist was an abuse victim and what Brian did to her was absolutely non-consenting abuse
Since I got the critique back I haven't really felt like writing, so I need your help. It's fucked up already paid this Broad. Though some of what she said is valid, I think most of it is just her not getting it so if any of you know of a copy editor who is experienced, help me out
Now the pussy
