Two or more drives storing the same data simultaneously. Redundant array of inexpensive disks.

Imagine if your single 8tb drive failed with all your data.
 
I bought this Saturday, I'm using it for my Xbox one x, those games in 4k take up a lot of space.

that synology is upgradeable hotswappable uses RAID architecture and runs flawlessly

accessible by both my mac and pc's

little more up front but zero problems down the road
