arent you supposed to do whats in the parenthesis first, then whatever the squares or roots, then multiplication or division, the adding and subtracting?
i mean its been a LONG time since i did 6th grade math...and i NEED to relearn this shit now that i got a kid.
i too know pemdas.
care to explain why google calculator is stating the answer is 288?
http://www.google.com/search?q=48÷2(9+3)&ie=UTF-8
there are other online calculator sites give output different answers.
there can only be one right answer.
Google calc broke it down wrong by doing this:
(48 ÷ 2) * (9 + 3) = 288
When it should have 48÷(2*(9+3))
48÷2(9+3) = ????
this should be interesting
Funny you say that. I was thinking that the other day, that when I have children I'm going to have to pretty much go back to school from scratch.arent you supposed to do whats in the parenthesis first, then whatever the squares or roots, then multiplication or division, the adding and subtracting?
i mean its been a LONG time since i did 6th grade math...and i NEED to relearn this shit now that i got a kid.
You got it wrong homie.
48÷2(9+3)
Parentheses first
(9+3) = 12
THEN YOU HAVE 48/2(12)
After that you work left to right
24(12)
288
Multiplication and division are the same, therefore you work right to left after you do the parentheses.
Least that's what I recall lol. I could be wrong.
lol yeah I did. Typed quicker than I was thinking for a second.I think you mean left to right and I think you are correct on multiplication and division are the same. Fuck I failed.
distributive property!
48/2(9+3)
48/(18+6)
48/24
![]()
48÷2(9+3) =
48÷2(12) =
48÷24= 2
Same difference....![]()
absolutely not
you only do what's inside the parenthesis first (9+3)
now you divide 48/2
final equation is 24(12)
now that im lookin at it, i think the division sign separates the problem, to get 288 it would have been 48÷2*(9+3) = with the multiplicatin sign between the 2 and parenthesis, thats my shot in the dark
