?You can fly half way around the world and pay a local to catch something like that for less than 5k.
.... who do you think is catching them there... the locals... you gotta catch it ship it safely, and then hope that it can safely be acclimated into your tank.... and pray that it doesn't have anything transferrable to your other fish and coral.... I think that it must be some sort of rare coloration.... in all my years of dealing with saltwater fish I've never seen one with that coloration/pattern

.

Even if that's true, how would you get it back home? I used to do it, but now you can't carry on enough water to place it in the overhead. If you ship it there's a good chance it will die in route over great distance without very special packaging and handling. I still wouldn't pay that much for a fish though.

Not sure if the Ban has lifted but there was a ban on collecting ornamental fish from Hawaii which is where most of the Yellow Tang collections come from.

The peppermint angelfish is known as one of the most expensive fish in the world with $30,000 being the highest listed price. And there is excellent reasoning for it! Collecting these fish requires a specially trained diver to reach nearly 400 feet down into the ocean.

A masked angelfish can sell for $20,000 and are a prized catch for divers in Hawaii. However, this species may not be as scarce for hobbyists for much longer as it has been successfully bred in captivity. This has not occurred on many occasions, but with the extreme difficulty it takes to breed some saltwater fish, this is a great start to these angels being readily available in the trade.

This is where some crack and a crackhead come in handy.

Is that why I can't find any yellow tang:angry:
Yep, and if you do find them, the price has gone way up, they will be captive Breed options soon.
There are companies that are breeding them.

you have to be a real moron to pay that much for a damn fish
They be breeding the fish also hoping to get one like the 30 thousand.

Now their cross breeding you ever see a catfish and a goldfish,I doubt it but if the conditions are right an leave in the tank long enough, you never know.
