Teen Accused of Assaulting Mom over PS2
PONTIAC, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) - In recent days, a 14-year-old has been in and out of an Oakland County crisis center, but Tuesday night, his stepfather says he hit a new low when he assaulted his own mother over a video game.
It all started last week when the teen got into a fight with his stepfather. A door took the brunt of the violence. Jamison Vitale then said, "That I was going to take the... game console to pay for the damage he did to the door."
Vitale kept his word. The teen came home Tuesday night to find the PlayStation 2 missing. That's when he allegedly lost it and threw his mother against the wall.
"According to the mom had punched her numerous times, kicked her numerous times. Picked up a piece of broken glass that had been broken during some of the arguments and cut her with it," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
"She was cut on the shoulder several times with (a) piece of glass," Vitale said.
The juvenile took off from his home on Boulder Court in Springfield Township, but he didn't get very far. Oakland County Sheriff's deputies found him nearby and took him into custody.
"Good thing. Could've been a lot worse, thankfully, and he clearly needs intervention. This is not the first time we've encountered him," Bouchard said.
The teen's mother is standing by his side. We're told hours after she was released from the hospital, she was in court for her son.
"He had to have consequences for the actions he did," said Vitale. "Completely inappropriate. I can't believe he actually did what he did to his mother."
The teen has been formally charged with assaulting his mother and he is currently being lodged at the Oakland County Children's Village.
