besides wordpress which is the heavyweight in this category... wix has come up as an option that alot of people work with. very easy to use, free option, and you can put a site together within a few hrs.

this is not for EVERY situation. Basic sites...cool. If you are setting out on a bigger project like a big ecommerce site or web app or putting together a blog that's going to be a high traffic destination, you are better off getting with a designer/ developer and spending a little bread.

I think Wordpress works great for a beginner type sites...So many plugins and templates to choose from.

Wix is great for just basic simple sites.

But Wordpress allows the user much more control and when you build traffic you want to keep it. Not have it going to wix servers.
