Being educated and black is hard because you get no acceptance. I still get the clutched purses in elevators from cacs, and the "you sound white in the hood". Its almost like they want you to fit in the mold and you should never break out of it. My relative told me a few years back that he isn't having any children with his wife because he doesn't want them growing up in a world like this.

Thanks for the post op - #1 (respectability politics) allows us to be manipulated like crazy b/c we are always looking for white mommy and daddy's approval/validation. I didn't know abt #2 (MLK is dead) until I heard a podcast mention it. Cacs/foreigners will throw MLK's name out there to manipulate the situation in their favor. It feels good to shop at black owned stores b/c that's the one time I don't have to deal with #8 (somebody's watching me). White women and the purse snatch - I get that shit even when I have on a suit.

I was in San Francisco for the first time a few years ago and there was an article in the paper about an older gay black man and all the racism he encounters within the gay community.

I have long believed that the real reason white people accuse Blacks of being savages is deflection. The only way that most of us can live with the horrible things we do is to promote the myth that everyone else is worse.

Yeah education won't insulate you from the bullshit, but it should help you recognize it and maneuver around it.
We have to figure out how to use their own stereotypes and racism against them to our benefit.

Non-violent was just the movement to achieve a specific goal. It's strategy was executed well to show the ugliness of racism to get civil rights bill passed.
But it by no means is saying this is the ONLY recourse black people should take to achieve equality. But they live to bludgeon black people with non-violence as if we are suppose to absorb all types of abuse and not fight back.

We do need to stand together, but white people need to make the first move.
Most whites and Blacks have common struggles and enemies, but whites only want to fight for their own and expect Black people to support them because "it's the right thing to do".
White people need to realize that everything the system does to Black people is practice for what's about to happen to us. We need to form genuine alliances to nip that shit in the bud.
