Omar Samuel Pasley (born 3 September 1986), better known by his stage name OMI, is a Jamaican-born singer. OMI was born in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica[1] and is currently signed to Ultra Records, a part of Sony Music.
"Cheerleader" is a song performed by Jamaican recording artist OMI. It was released in 2012 through Oufah Records, charting solely in OMI's native country.[1] In 2014 it was remixed by German DJ and music producer Felix Jaehn and released by Sony Music[2] as "Cheerleader" (Felix Jaehn Remix). This version went on to become a number-one hit around the world, specifically in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovakia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
The Felix Jaehn remix has charted at number one in ten countries, including Australia, Belgium, Germany and Ireland.
Originally due to be released in the United Kingdom in May 2015, the release date for the "Cheerleader" remix was brought forward to April 12 due to its streaming release gaining popularity and popular demand, having peaking on the UK Singles Chart at number 27 on audio streams alone, and the presence of fake cover versions climbing the iTunes chart.[3] On 3 May 2015, following two weeks at number two, the song reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. Although remaining at number two in the 'sales only' chart, streaming of "Cheerleader" helped it overcome Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" in that week. It becomes only the third instance where the number one single on the official chart did not top the 'sales only' chart also. "Cheerleader" remained at number one for a second consecutive week, also clocking up 3.2 million streams in that week.
