President Trump will at least have one Red Sox player with whom he can discuss Dave Roberts’ questionable managing decisions.
In the hours after Boston’s 5-1 win over the Dodgersto clinch the franchise’s fourth World Series in 15 years, Red Sox reliever Heath Hembree enthusiastically confirmed he will be visiting the White House to celebrate.
“Hell yeah! I f–k with Trump!” Hembree told TMZ Sports outside of a Los Angeles nightclub Sunday night.
Hembree said he liked “everything” about Trump. The 29-year-old righty from South Carolina threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen during the postseason, including one frame against the Dodgers in the Game 3 marathon.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who has been critical of Trump’s comments regarding his native Puerto Rico, was not as decisive. Asked at his postgame press conference if he would go to the White House, Cora said, “We’ll talk about it later on.”
Trump evidently watched the series, chiming in on Twitter on Saturday night to criticize Roberts for taking out Dodgers starter Rich Hill.
White House visits have become controversial for recent championship teams, though the Astros did go after last year’s Fall Classic.
