Oh Dear God.
We've know Dude around my way. My Moms and her circle of music people kept an ear out for news about him on the Harlem streets for years. Especially since she worked with addicts on drug rehab and re-education.
I'm glad I got to see Brother on numerous occasions throughout the 80s.
First time at S.O.Bs
Second time at The Beacon with Nona Hendryx opening.
Third time at the Beacon opening for The Crusaders.
Fourth Time at Symphony Space doing a poetry reading with Linton Kwesi Johnson.
When I was doing radio in Oregon during the 90s, Gil was to be part of this "supergroup" that included Roy Ayers, Lenny White, and a slew of big names from that 70s/80s Jazz/R&B genre. I ended up not making that show. But I was told he never showed up. Roy Ayers and others had to do his parts. This was sadly more the case during those years.
Sorry.
But 'Pac and all these other cats who today's peeps are calling music revolutionaries will NEVER be on Gil's level.

Pac was never a music revolutionary neither was gill IMO seriously. I listen to his work and I didn't see what the big deal is. I also listened to the Last Poets no big deal IMO. Miles Davis no doubt, Motown's own Marvin Gaye Yes, Michael Jackson of course

And Gil isnt influential? Many musicians and hiphop artists would disagree with you.
Any quality artists? Not these militant angry back to Africa but never end up getting ready to leave these type of kats. I'm sure some would. IMO He's not super influential just my personal opinion. Kats on here act like their mother just passed away or something He's okay but I don't care for his work. R.I.P none the less.

If an artist I didnt care for died and had their own post, I would just skip it or look at it to see who they were about without posting
