Just keeping it real as BGOL has me even doubting my fucking self.

If it were life or death though, I will still go with 2

48÷2(9+3) =
48 DIVIDED BY 2 MULTIPLIED BY THE SUM OF 9 AND 3
since 9 and 3 are in paretheses, you do it first

so we get

48 DIVIDED BY 2 MULTIPLIED BY 12

Now work the problem left to right since it both multiplication and division have the same precedence

ANSWER is 288

Okay look I called my friend that is a math major getting ready to go to grad school soon, so I'm sure he knows. AS WRITTEN above the answer is 288. If you want the answer 2 you would have to put it like this

48÷(2(9+3))
or
48
---
2(9+3)

There it is solved. Don't trip I thought it was 2 also. But multiplication and division are equal as subtraction and addition.

You work them both left to right.

48÷2*12 = 24*12 288
12*2÷48 = 24÷48 = .5

I'm going to have to make this in a large font.
MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION ARE OF EQUAL PRECEDENCE. When you come across multiplication and division you work left to right. Multiplication DOES NOT take precedence over division. THAT is where everyone is fucking up.

Since we're talking division and multiplication:
What is your numerator and denominator?

The answer is 2.
The problem is written correctly. You have to use the PEMDAS - order of operation & understand math symbols. I know it's been a long time and a lot of porn since people have done this, but asking a math teacher or looking up how to solve the equation(google) would end all the theories. :smh:

I seriously think people are getting stuck on the bolded part man.

No, I KNOW they are. Especially dumb ass Sakem.

Just for clarification PEMDAS is

Parentheses
Exponents
Multiplication AND Division
Addition AND Subtraction.

It's just an acronym to make it easy to remember.

*sigh*

Put these two equations into excel (let excel do the auto correction of adding the multiplaction sign after the two):

=48/2(9+3)

=48/(2(9+3))

And see what excel says the answer is. If you still think you're right and Excel, Google MATLAB, TI-83, and some posters on here (including my smart ass self) are ALL wrong, then you're just a thick headed person not worth arguing with.

Ive been to college and majored in engineering and tutored in stats. But even I can make mistakes but this is 4th grade shit. Even if you cant remember, you can look up some kind of reference to support your answer. I should have to post the the theory of order of operations to prove a simple math problem.

The answer is 2 people.

How people make something so simple look complex!

48÷(2(9+3))

The answer is 2.

These responses are the funniest to me.

You do realize that those mathematical software that are giving the correct answer of 288 are written by engineers who are using the PEMDAS principle....they're just using it correctly...unlike you.

Leave it to BGOL to fuck with my head because I can see it this way as well!!!

It's true that multiplication and division are equal.

Dammit, I'm waffling!!!

It's been a long time since I've done problems like these but I'm going to flip flop and switch to 288...Fuck!!!

48/2(9+3)

48/2*12

Since division and multiplication are the same...

48/2 = 24*12 = 288.

FUCK!!!

Bottom line and what I believe is the answer is different based on how you interpret the equation. There lies the argument in my opinion, and I might be wrong. Fuck it. I'm done with this shit. Oh well.

48
---(9+3)
2

or

48
------
2(9+3)

Happy Friday, and I hope you all enjoy it to the fullest :D...Assholes!!!

FUCK!!!

Welcome to the light.

Where the extra parentheses come from

The 9+3 isnt in the denominator

^^^This formula is different from this

48÷2(9+3). Check my response above for the explanation

This is the original ----> 48÷2(9+3)

Ok, let's remove the brackets, that should be the first computation.

Now we have 48÷2(12) = 48÷24 which is 2.

Remember 2 is multiply by what is in the bracket.

I can understand being rusty on the subject, but these niccas are straight obstinate in their ignorance. :smh:

If you want it easier, treat (9+3) like its x

Then solve 48/2x

If you can't solve that you really should not be in here...or anywhere debating math with anyone
