English translations of a few selected comments left by users of 2-channel, Japan’s largest online bulletin board, in response to the news that American tennis player Serena Williams posed nude for the cover of a recent issue of ESPN magazine:

:smh::hmm: Having grown up there, cant say I'm surprised at the comments. The Japanese standard of beauty is insanely skewed and I can remember on more than one occasion being called all sorts of crazy names simply because I'm half African-American and have brown skin. It's a shame but then again, thats the "we Japanese" for ya. The "Looks like fried dough cake" comment had me rolling though.

To be honest, I think that's everybody's standard of beauty. Arabs, Mestizos, Mulattos, Indians, Asians, Native Americans, Africans, Eskimos ... errybody. Just how that is. We like symmetrical faces, pointy noise, "caucasion" features, light skin, and straight hair. Most whites have this trait. Just the way it is. :dunno:

Doesn't surprise me. You can read similar remarks about Serena from Whites and Blacks alike from America all over the net.

Serena has some attractive features but she also got some not so feminine features about her. Mainly her musculature. Besides japs are use to the petite little itty bitty physique on a woman Serena's body is just too dominant.
 
I read the original Japanese comments (I can understand it) and I'm in utter shock that prejudice exists in countries other than America. :eek:
