i have batman 1989, had no problems with it.

So you got 2 movies that are out of sync and you are ready to quit on the device?:lol::lol::lol:

I'm not gonna quit the device...the machine is hot and alot of people like it, I'm sure WD will fix the problems, currently what the people on the WDTV forum are saying that you should revert to an older firmware, which I'm current trying to do

you know how to convert to older firmware right?

no not really.

download the version you want to go back to. open the "wdtv.ver" file in notepad. Change the version number to 1.02.09 and save it. Then just do the upgrade steps, but you'll actually be downgrading.

yea Deuce, sounds like issues specific to those mkv's. From time to time dependingon who does the encoding that will happen.

Look there is no device that will help you with a poorly encoded file whether its an avi, mkv, vob, wmv whatever

How can I know if I have a poorly encoded file

The funny thing is, these movies play fine on the computer but lag on the hub

I fucking lucked up, and got this today:

9jd25s.jpg

It's a DVR station/remote for my music/video player. You can plug USB/portable drives into it, shit records HDTV, playback on your HDTV, you can stream from your PC to HDTV also. Only drawback is no HDMI output, but I'm using it primarily for music. Shit was discontinued, but I lucked up and got a floor model for $45. Got all the original contents/package, too.

The newer models are expensive. That's a 405. I got it for $150 right before they discontinued it.

I just got The Curious Case of Benjamin Button on MP4...and it's clear and clean and in sync...yet the Purple Rain MP4 is distorted.

go to the site benq recommended and see if you can find the avi or mkv version of purple rain.

Well people I've been busy since I first got my WD 2 months ago I been ripping my own DVDs and BLU RAYs. I have two 1tb HDDs one only have Blu Ray rips on it,each file is about 18-40gb each, I use that one to show off my home theater with video and sound at its best. The only thing it dont play English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and that sucks might look into popcorn joint if WD dont get it right, other than that you can find a better product at this price.

The other HDD have my DVD rips and downloads, now with my dvd rips if i leave them rip as if i was gonna burn a dvd disk with the TS video and audio files the movie plays all vob files like i just popped it in a dvd player. If i add a jpeg of box art to the folder it wont show in thumbview is anyone else having this problem.

^^^Why are your blu rays 18-40gbs? where are you getting them from?

If the cover art doesnt show up, reset the device and they should show up. But make sure the .jpg is in the same folder with the movie.

Im ripping Blu Rays(I Own) not the ones from Netflix or Blockbuster at a 3 out at a time $20 a month pass. I rip them with a combination of three software programs. The larger rips are of movies that are highly rank in video and audio to enjoy on my 1080p 73inch DLP bitchin Klipsch home theater.

It's all here BenQ. Thanks for the assist for images. I'm a little skiddish about the beta update to the firmware. I take it if it is problematic, I can downgrade right?

If this has already been posted forgive the repost but while rooting around, I found this image creator for the WDTV. Seems pretty cool.

yes you can. the instructions for downgrading are in here as well.

Glad I saw this thread. I'm about to make a trip down to boring-ass mississippi this weekend so ima need something to entertain myself. filling up a notebook HD and hooking this up to my dad's 47" should do the trick

New Firmware: Nothing special though

What's New?

Prerelease 1.02.10 (includes all previously released updates)

* Greek subtitles render slowly in Greek character encoding mode; subs render properly now
* Korean subtitles disappear during the video playback, Korean subs now play properly
* Playlists play in correct order. Instead of playing files in alphabetical order, they are played in the order added to the list.
* Metadata support for music improved over previous release

Added feature:

* Metadata support for music improved over previous releases. For example, browsing by genre is broken down into artists, then albums, then tracks.

Known issues:

* A few text strings were not translated properly over different UI languages

I downloaded two street racing dvds in mdf format and the wd tv doesn't recognize them. I have them in separate folders, each with a "folder.jpg" and it doesn't even see the folder.

Thruout the years, I never could find an easy way to convert mdf to iso or another format. Anyone know an easy way?

Dude. If I'm not mistaken, .MDF is a Alcohol 120% compressed format. You'll need to use Alcohol 120% or burn it to a DVD.

On another note: Heres a similar (and supposedly better) product.

http://www.xtreamer.net/

vs wd

Looks good. I may move the wd to the bedroom and get this for the family room.

In recognition of advances in Internet TV, the Xtreamer supports FLV file format so as to enhance your experience of Internet LIVE streaming featuring popular internet TV such as YouTube, Picasa and Yahoo video.

This shit is so fucking fustrating, I need the boards help. Just got this new WD TV thing. Opened it and attached to my tv (version 1.01.02) I downloaded the latest version (1.02.07) to my external usb drive. I opened the zip file just like the driections say and moved the folder to the G:\root from the WD TV Folder.

Now the directions on the WD site say to turn on the WD unit, plug in the external usb drive and go to settings, so far so good. Then the directions say to "highlight the firmware upgrade icon" and press enter. Houston, we have a problem. There is no fucking Firmware upgrade icon!!! I went into Settings -Systems and there is only Language, Media Library, Screensaver delay, Browser display, Additional encoding, System Reset and About options. Thats it.

I have unplugged the usb drive and attached it about 5 times. It scans the drive but nothing happens!!

What am i doing wrong?

its not supposed to be a folder that you move. Its two files in the folder. Move those two files to your hd. once you power on the WD, you will see a message saying "new hardware found". Just choose yes to install.

THX!! It worked!!

One other quick question. Whenever I try to play clips from my digital camera, I get a message saying AUDIO CHANNEL 1 (Unsupported). I get video but no sound, but my movies still play sound with no problem, just my digital camera clips are not working.

what format are the clips? are you plugging your camera directly into the wd, or the memory card? is your wd connected to a receiver or to the tv?

I downloaded all my video clips (.mov files) to my external WD hardrive and have that hardive connected to the WDTV. My WDTV is connected straight to the back of my TV (HDMI).

Searched a bunch of forums and many of them said to convert my mov files to an avi file. I converted the file using MP4Cam2AVI freeware. I still have to same problem, I can see the video on my WDTV, but no sound. In addition, the video quality is lower than when it was a MOV file. Any suggestions?
