'Doomsday' has arrived: MTA board approves $2.50 subway fare, new budget

its called INFLATION. Do a search on the money threads and read about the economy. I've been saying this shit for months. When you print money out of thin air and call it a bailout.. the result is INFLATION. Zimbabwe is an extreme example.. but the US will experience so very high inflation in the next couple of years.

Something seems fishy about that. That's going to hurt a lot of people. Seems like they are trying to deliberately keep people trapped.

I don't see why everyone is buggin ...

- If you were to take a CAB, I guarantee you - you wouldn't get out that fucker for less than $5.00 ONE WAY.

- If you to drive a car, a gallon of gas will get you 20 miles in NYC traffic. A gallon of gas is $2.20 right now. Then add in your insurance, maintenance, and car payment to get your true CPM (Cost Per Mile) and you'll probably be shocked at the number.

I'm not happy about it - but it's still a good deal if you ask me. :dunno:

:yes::yes: try catching public transportation at 2am in another city, wont happen. 2.50 isnt bad for 24/hr service

Yeah but its fucked up when the salaries aren't being able to keep up with it :smh:

They know mothafuckas have to much pride or are too lazy to be biking like European countries.

Heres what I was very impressed by when I was in Amsterdam

Weak people get fucked over repeatedly especially if your known to be weak.

They dont play that shit over there ...they been adjusted to the bullshit.

I was there before the gas went crazy back in 2004 and it was in effect.

Yea.. that's what inflation is.. if salaries rose at the same rate inflation wouldnt mean anything. That's why the housing bubble burst.. Housing prices went up up up and salaries didn't... POP!

Its still bad.. Soooooo many people use the Ny Mta service everyday that they should have enough money where they dont need to raise it..

these motherfuckers just had like a billion dollar surplus.. on top of the fact that they want to take the money and do stupid shit with it

Nobody told them to go and buy them dumb ass updated train cars with the lights that display your stop

give me the old classic train cars anyday...

You gotta keep in mind though that the cost of living in NYC is already overpriced. Housing is HIGH, food is HIGH, etc. So by the time you add up all those expenses, that fare hike hurts folks. And then they CUTTING BACK on the transportation, eliminating train lines and employees. Which means trains will run less frequently.

Exactly... I feel the MTA should be rolling in cake right now..Look at all the places they get money from .. Trains, Busses, not to mention the path trains and Long island rail road

I think they are just using this whole "recession" thing as a way to get more money out of the people.. bcuz at the end of the day who pockets do they really care about?

The MTA are a bunch of fucking crooks and will continue to get away with this type of bullshit.A couple of years ago when they raised fares to $2 it was discovered that they had two sets of books and nothing came of it.

Here in D.C. right now, the subway system (METRO), you have to pay PER STOP depending on how far you traveled. Like for me to go 12 miles would cost $3.95 ONE WAY!

And then there's like a 10-15% "Differential" for traveling during rush hours (6am - 9pm).

When I first got here, I would get stuck in the station because the price went UP during my trip, and when you tried to leave the station - it would reject your card and say you didn't put enough money on it and not let you leave!

Oh and DC metro, that shit closes at 1am, runs a fucked up Sat/Sun schedule and always has mad fucking problems on the Red Line.

:yes::yes: try catching public transportation at 2am in another city, wont happen. 2.50 isnt bad for 24/hr service

Indeed. I think people take for granted how good and efficient the NYC MTA is. It's really a fucking bargin when you think about it. The best deal in NYC.

Some y'all who are crying about the $2.50 fare....are fucking ridiculous! Trying taking a cab with your $2 dollars now and tell me how far the cab driver will take you! this system run 24/7, takes you from the bronx to far rockaway, Queens plus gives u a transfer to get on the bus to drop you at the corner of your block or close enough.....y'all need to suck it up or move away to another state and tell me how good there transit system is....i bet it is not 24/7......plz

when it comes to that $13 dollar toll that is One way entering Staten island ( i agree that shit is crazy but i dont have no business out there so fuck it)

Something seems fishy about that. That's going to hurt a lot of people. Seems like they are trying to deliberately keep people trapped.

AIG is full of pricks on the leaseback transactions the majority of transit agencies participated in.

They should be taxed. Then they wouldn't attempt it. Then again, they'd just sue the government.

For those of you niggaz that is just bending over and taking it, you some gay ass niggaz.
For everybody else, why don't you try and break up the MTA union(look out for those steamrollers though)? How about organizing political rallies that get somebody elected that knows how to run a city (without fucking mob connections please)? If you got cake, why don't get a class C new york license (whatever the licenses is to drive a large truck), buy a a used school bus, start you're own mini line and undercut the price of the MTA. I bet you would make mad cake:cool::cool::cool:

:yes::yes::yes:co-sign

i have the feeling the MTAA made them trains for the tourist because it makes no sense to display obvious syht.

Even though Chicago's mass transit system is not as extensive as NYC's we are neck and neck in price fares. Remember NYC like Chicago are mob towns. The mayor of both cities have more clout than any governor. As a Chicago native, I feel your pain. But that 13$ shit is just gangsta. You NYC'ers need to come out no less than 1 million deep and shut down that fucking bridge for a week until they make that shit reasonable. That is just plain robbery.

its a no win............ cause you still gotta contend with the nj turn pike..... picki a exit $$$$$$

What are you talking about?? MTA's been running a deficit for the past couple of years. The bailout was last year.
They've been talking about raising fares for about 2 years now.

The amount of money going to the system through fares is not enough to keep the system up. The MTA has been losing money not in fares and ridership but through the amount of money they get in taxes. More specifically property taxes. The fares alone don't even pay for the up keep of the system.

There are many articles that explain this.
I even did you the favor of finding one:
http://www.allbusiness.com/real-estate/commercial-residential-property-property/10204365-1.html

The bailout has nothing to do with this.

The MTA is also making an insane amount from their Tunnels and Bridges (Throgsneck, queens midtown etc.) The MTA has been mismanaged for years by these idiots. The TWU(union) has insane Perks (No way in hell should someone get full pension and retire at the age of 45 or older), and the idiot projects that they have going on that are out of budget. 20 bucks to next person that can tell how long the 2nd ave train service has been going. Don't think for a second that in 2011 $3 dollars will be our new fare.

Forgot to mention, it's not the fare increase that is pissing me off its the services that will be cut. Think about it a 25% increase in fares and reduce service, does that make any sense? Another thing it has been proving before that the MTA has had 2 books for the longest time.

Not really.

Here is why:
Lets say you live on Rosedale, Queens. You would have to take the bus and transfer to the train if you want to go to manhattan. ( $2.50)
Or take the dollar cab and transfer to the train to go to manhattan. ( $2 + $2.50 )

Now, you're saying fuck it, get a bus and drive people from Rosedale to Manhattan right?

Problem is that driving from Rosedale to manhattan during rush hour traffic means that you would have to take the Van Wyck Expressway ( 20-45 minutes ) to the Long island Expressway ( 15 - 30 minutes ) then either take the Midtown tunnel or 59th street bridge ( 5 -20 minutes ).

You're going to charge people what? $2.00? to sit in traffic for about 1.5 - 2 hours?
Nah, they will just take the bus to the train and be in the city in about 1 hour, oh I forgot...lets say some people work in midtown and some downtown...add another 30-45 minutes...shit just doesn't work out unless you're carpooling tourists from JFK to the City and visa versa.

Then you can charge $10-20 per person, but Golden Touch transportation, Super Shuttle and Go already have that market on lock.

20 bucks to next person that can tell how long the 2nd ave train service has been going. Don't think for a second that in 2011 $3 dollars will be our new fare.

December 2001, where can I send you my paypal infor for my $20 sir, thank you.

its a no win............ cause you still gotta contend with the nj turn pike..... picki a exit $$$$$$

Not to mention that the NJ turnpike rates just went up also.

Fuck the verrazano bridge though, I will stick to the Lincoln and Holland Tunnel, then shoot up the 1 & 9 local and then use the turnpike so I pay less toll.

December 2001, where can I send you my paypal infor for my $20 sir, thank you.

Nope the construction started in fucking 1972. The have yet to finish this fucking project, thats why I am saying the MTA 's management has been shitty for god knows how long.

But wait till NYC'ers have to help pay for the new Yankee, Citi Field, Giant/Jet's and Nets stadiums all slated to go up over the next 4 years.

:hmm: I know this has been discussed a million times.

Maaaannnn! All we NYers got to do is do like we did back in the 80's. Just jump the turnstyle or walk thru the gate. All 8 million of us do that for a couple of weeks, the MTA willllll get the message. 5'O can't arrest all 4 to 8 million of us if we all say fuck it and ride for free.:D
