Where did you go to college, and would you recommend it to others?

Im currently a Junior at The University of Alabama and I like it here.

I would tell you that you should choose a college based on what you want to study , but as a freshman you dont know what you want to study, you only think you know what you want to study lol.

Just go to a good school and by good I mean reputation.

livingstone, in NC and i would not recommend it to anyone now.

i heard now 10+ years later it's a joke

I go to

and yes, I would recommend it

I think it all depends on your situation and what your goals are. I knew that I wanted to go to grad school, so I opted to go to a cheaper, less reputable undergrad - and if I have to, I'll take loans and such (hopefully I'll get scholarships tho) to attend a grad school with a good reputation.

I'm not a fan of huge student loans, but if you don't have to come out your pocket 100k for college, go to the best school possible (and as dude above said, reputation is key).

Edit: I left out the main point... I'm in my last year at The City College of New York (in Harlem), and I'm gonna go to Columbia or NYU for grad school (God willing).

I'm Currently enrolled in a community college online, it's straight you just got to be more disciplined than the average. I wouldn't recommend, "for profit schools" like (DeVry, Phoenix Online etc...) I've heard bad things about them, and that employee's frown at them when they see those schools on the resume. Go for a college that is REGIONALLY ACCREDITED. Community colleges are cheaper and once you've earned your associates degree you can transfer to a well known University for your Bachelors, or Masters Degree. Just make sure you do your research before pursuing the college of your choice.

not really all that in some cases...

some of these schools especially some of the HBCU's have turned to shit due to financial problems or other related problems

Probably gonna get my masters from there also, get my tuition remission on!

Oh yeah, I definitely would recommend it to others, New Brunswick though, bump Newark and Camden!! LOL

University of Delaware - great academics and resources, but unfortunately the social scene was lousy for me as a young black man (blacks were 6 % out of 15000 students). I would not recommend it.

:smh: Don't know about that, Newark is a dump as well. In fact I'm just have a poor view of Jersey in general so I'm bias.

New York City College Of Technology AKA City Tech. Its a great school with lots of females but the elevators are a bitch.

Almost everyone has a poor view of Jersey, so I'm not surprised. I loved my college experience. I recommend New Brunswick over Newark and Camden because its a larger area. It has 5 different campuses, so you can utilize that to customize how you want your experience. Newark and Camden are both much smaller.

You a Terp son? Me too.

Yep yep

are you from Baltimore?

Yeah, earlier in my college search I looked at Rutgers but then I remembered where it was located. I'm pretty sure New Brunswick is nice though.

..GEORGIA TECH AND NO..

you're going to have to explain this one. The academics alone put it in the forefront.

I won't front, it wasn't my first choice, I wanted to go to Maryland, was all ready to send back my letter of intent to attend, but my grandmother was all like "Who's gonna help with that out of state tuition?" Calmed my little ass down real quick, lol

:lol::lol::lol: that will do it

I wanted to back to Cali for school but those dreams were crushed when the cost of out of state tuition for the schools I was looking at were way out there. It really does discourage out of state applicants (unless you have money like that, or a scholarship).

that calmed my ass down real quick as well.

But if you can get into a good school instate, go for it.

m.i.t. for 1 yr 93-94 dropped out......:(

Massachusetts Institute of Technology M.I.T. or something else entirely???????????

And yes....I'd recommend it. It's small enough where you're just not one in the crowd and you're able to get one on one attention with your professor. But it's large enough where there's usually something you can get into on campus. I haven't been there in years though, so I don't know how it is now.

i was gonna go there before some situations popped up that kept me in ny (along with cheaper tuition here)... a girl i used 2 mess with down there has like 120k student loans (between tuition and room n board/rent... i wouldn't wish that on any1... the school n campus seemed cool tho, the few times i went down there

Unless you have a good reason: the best school in your state
Out of state tuition is an ugly beast you don't want to be paying off for the rest of your life!!!
