I have seen time and time again a bunch of iPhone killer threads. So I thought since this is a topic of interest that we should start an official thread to talk about it. Y'know another deathclock conversation about how Apple is going down/out of business or how the competition is fuckin up or doing the right things. Whatever your take, Lets agrogate these evolutions in here and see progress made on all fronts of the real SmartPhone revolution/evolution.

A few Months ago I remember this from a iPhone killer thread here on BGOL.

This new Samsung is Crack

Verizon Wireless customers, you may want to sit down for this one. Samsung's oh-so-sexy SGH-F700, which is currently thrilling quite a few Vodafone customers, could be headed to The Network -- and soon. According to Phone Arena, the Verizon variant of the F700 will be dubbed the SCH-U940, but actual details beyond that are scant. We are told that the unit will boast a 440 x 240 resolution touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard and a two-megapixel camera, but beyond that we're left to wonder. No worries though, as the phone will reportedly be landing "in a few months," so keep your eyes peeled, cool?

I guess the Samsung SCH-U940 didn't cut the mustard because I haven't heard shit about it since then. Anyway Samsumng is at it again. Trying hard to crack the iPhone formula.

Here's their latest creation the "Instinct" User Interface.
[flash]http://www.viddler.com/player/d9c8a9e3/[/flash]

They are really trying to copy the iPhones Methodology, but I doubt it will ever be as powerful seeing how the iPhones has a true desktop class operating running on it.

Fucking Sprint. I want that Instinct but the face of the phone is too slim. If it was the same size as the Iphone then I would grab it. To me it looks like the Voyager without the keypad. I might have to break down and get my an Iphone when they go 3g

This is old as fuck. Why yall keep posting these type of threads? I see the reverse psychology all of you are trying to pull. Post concept generaphones in a way to big up Apple. Why not post the Verizon LG Voyager? Thats a damn good phone and has everything I need. And is ACTUALLY OUT

Um, you could post the phone. The thread is open to all. :hmm: This thread is meant to talk about the improvements of all smartphones. It as of recent that the iPhone came on to the scene and set the new bar. Thus the term "iPhone Killer" became a ubiquitous term today.

So get off of the "This is a big pro-Apple thread and understand its a more those "Competition is good thread" and understand some will make the mark but a lot won't. So tell me about the Voyager.

i think he is trying to consolidate all the so called "iphone killer" posts into one thread instead of having 1 every week since every new phone out seems to be dubbed the iphone killer

we could just call this "The Official Afroyale Thread" but that wouldn't be fair to all the other people who hate apple and want to chime in with the new phones out.

The Voyager to me is the best offering yet from LG. Its not iPhone class, I don't think it even beats out the Nokia N95. But its still a decent phone.

The good: The LG Voyager VX10000 has a cutting-edge design with a brilliant touch screen and a spacious keyboard. It offers a generous features set that includes EV-DO support, V Cast Mobile TV Bluetooth, a top-notch Web browser, and an integrated GPS application. And if that's not enough, its call quality was excellent.

The bad: The LG Voyager VX10000's camera lacks such extra options as a flash and Wi-Fi. The touch screen can be clunky at times, and the streaming video quality and EV-DO connection speed were uneven.

The bottom line: Though we had some minor complaints here and there, the Voyager's sleek design, generous feature set and excellent performance make it the best LG messaging and multimedia phone by far.

Thats the point. And I'm all for finding the next true king of the Smartphones. Because the new SDK for the iPhone is really going to turn heads. I mean the corporate types and power users.

So lets see more innovation. I'll accept it from any brand.

To add to my point that an iPhone killer thread is a valid just look at a few titles of the threads easily searched on BGOL.

Thats a good point. Send it in to Apple. Since its a full blown operating system on it. I'm sure that can be added easily.

It looks to have the body of the iPhone, the glossy UI of the PSP, and the brain of a Blackberry.

Man you can't go wrong if you incorporate the best of everything that's on the market. Blackberry's got another winner!! I may have to turn in my Pearl.

(oh, it'll be 3G compatible out the box too ...lol!)

I think BB vs IPhone comparisons ..well :smh:

Its like comparing apples and oranges...

Iphone is media
BB is business...

The lines get blurry on certain issues but overall they are both dope phones...I just dont like the Iphone touch screen keyboard...but it works great for others...and its a slick phone

Here's a nice Phone that I think many here may just be hearing about.

Watch out iPhon and Blackberries? Here comes the HTC Diamond.

As expected, HTC officially took the wraps off the HTC Touch Diamond at a press conference in London Tuesday and great googly moogly, does this thing look hot! Not only does it look sexy from the outside with its sleek, black casing, but the Touch Diamond also features a revamped TouchFlo 3D interface that gives you a more animated and easier way to access your contacts, messages, and other content. You can do all this via the Diamond's gorgeous 2.8-inch, 680x480 VGA (yes, that's right, VGA) touch screen; plus, there's a new touch-sensitive control below the display to help you out.

The Touch Diamond is a lot more than just looks, though. The quad-band smartphone runs Windows Mobile 6.1 and has integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, and HSDPA support. HTC also noted that it will ship the Touch Diamond with a customized mobile Web browser that provides an optimized view of pages and lets you zoom and pan sites with one hand. In addition, the page orientation will automatically go from portrait to landscape mode when you turn the device sideways (hmm, sounds familiar. *cough, iPhone, cough, cough*) Other goodies include a 3.2-megapixel camera, 4GB internal storage, 256MB flash memory, and 192MB RAM.

The HTC Touch Diamond will start shipping in European markets this June, and then later in the quarter for Asia and the Middle East. As for us, there's good news and bad news. The good news is that we're actually getting our own version but unfortunately, we, as well as Latin American markets, will have to wait till the second half of 2008. Now, while the Touch Diamond certainly looks like a gem (sorry, had to do it), we're hoping it's more than just flash. And we couldn't help but be reminded of a similar-looking smartphone from Velocity Mobile. Mmm hmm, things just got interesting. Check out CNET UK's hands-on examination and our photo gallery of the HTC Touch Diamond.

Highlights

2.8-inch touch screen, with four times the pixels of most phones.

Vibrant TouchFLO 3D user interface, responding perfectly to your finger gestures when scrolling through contacts, browsing the web, and launching media… all vividly displayed as photos and artwork powered by the 3D graphics processor.
HTC Weather - providing a constant view of weather at home and abroad.
Surf and download at broadband speed with HSDPA internet connectivity.
3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera for quality stills and video.
4GB of internal storage to preserve more photos, music, files and exchanged data than ever before.
Integrated GPS for use with maps software for a full turn-by-turn satellite navigation experience.

This in my opinion is the first true rival to the iPhone. I'm not going to say better but its close though it doesn't have multi-touch. It has a nice look without bitting the iPhone and its windows mobile phone that uses Opera instead of IE. and the Touch flow 3d interface is really nice.

Thanks Apple for waking other phone makers. Its gonna be a great future for smartphone users. Lets hope more makers start taking risks.

They need to bring the Touch phones with the slide-out keyboards to the US.

They have them overseas.

Hmm, a blackberry with the same silver bezel as the iphone and PSP ripoff UI? Fuck outta here.

Have you ever used a Blackberry? If you did, you wouldn't be saying that. As a matter of fact, you'd be scratching your head over the Iphone hype and wondering why everyone isn't using one already.

It didn't become the business standard by accident ya know.

I'm probably gonna get the HTC RAPHAEL when it comes out...

Full touch front...with a thin slide out keyboard

It's not quite as feature rich as the Instinct, but it corrects a lot of the Voyager's flaws, from the touchscreen to the music player, as you can see in our video walkthrough and massive gallery.

Yo Mad, I'm not a fan of Sprint but one of my sons school mates has one of those Instinct phones and I got to be honest with you, I was impressed. The built-in ringtones are amazing and it does everything. GPS, street locater, scrolling phone list and I think it's 3g. It's one thing to read about those but to actually touch one made me a believer.

It's not an iPhone but it doesn't have to be.

You are so right.

But I love what is happening to the cel phones in general. Apple's iPhone is forcing all to step up their game thus forcing Apple to step up their game. This year we are seeing the results of that. Just look at the

Apple iPhone 3G
Samsung Instinct
LG Dare
Nokia N95 (North American Edition)
as well as a new phones from Google, and Blackberry

It really is a good time to be in the hunt for a new phone.

I enjoy my Instinct very much. the only problem I have with it is that it doesn't zoom in and out when taking pictures or camcorder mode.. that sucks major but not enough to take it back. I really get my money worth with the TV stations they provide, my email access, texting, gps and everything as it has to offer.
