Books like "The Autobiography of Malcolm X," "Roots," "Native Son" and "Black Like Me" weren't in any way revelatory or life-changing for me. They simply confirmed what James Brown had already hipped me to when I was a toddler.

Yeah I feel the same way,if those books did anything it just confirmed what I already know about our struggle's and the true nature of man(espacially white).

I would say the book that had a huge factor in opening my eyes to reading was "The coldest winter ever" by sista soulja.I read it in tenth grade and from that day on Ive been purchasing books every few months.
