I am not a Yankee fan. I like them because I like baseball, but I am not a Yankee fan. That being said, I found myself rooting for the Yankees these past few years particularly because I didn't want Torre to get fired. I couldn't do it this time because I am a born Indians fan. Torre is a great manager, flat out. He doesn't do "bonehead" moves like the Philly's Charlie Manuel, taking a starting pitcher out (who is not hurt) in the 4th inning. He is surrounded by a capable staff. He doesn't pitch, and he doesn't hit and he doesn't blow saves.

His managerial record (Where is Tony Reali when you need him) is absolutely great. There isn't a team in MLB that wouldn't take that record, his what, 4 championships (c'mon Reali), 12 times in the playoffs in 12 years. And STILL this isn't enough for Steinbrenner? If anything he ('The Boss') should fire himself and/or the GM (although the GM is only GM in name only. Every move he makes is first signed off by Steinbrenner).

Steinbrenner is like Al Davis. He buys a Toyota (which is a good car and performed well) with 99K miles on it. It might get you a year or two of really good years, but in the end, it did have 99K miles on it when you got it so itis gonna go downhill...and fast. Jeter was a Lexus, and from their own farm system, no less. After Jeter it seemed all he ws doing was trading his future away for current stars.

Joe Torre is probably gonna be fired. I know I wouldn't want the job only because of the owner breathing down your neck and blaming you for a roster that doesn't produce when you didn't put the roster together in the first place. Before Colin Powell enters...

Joe Torre, one of the most overrated managers of all time. When he won the first 4 World series, Yankees fans were saying he was was the greatest ever despite having the largest payroll of any team often multiplying the payrolls of their opponents. For the past 7 years he hasn't won jack! So doesn't that make him a terrible manager to have a payroll exceeding 200 million and losing out to small market teams? He's done people.

The poll is a little misleading to me, because it's definitely not Joe's fault but he should've been let go years ago.

It's definitely the wack ass pitching and A-Rod's constant choking when the playoffs start that's killed the Yankees the last couple of seasons.

don't think he should get fired, the thing with the pitching was the problem, but if you look down the road to 09 it looks like what their did this year, with not going after Barry Zito hard, and going after Andy and Roger, they was about the money, the games Roger pitched was sell outs, so that why he was there, but i think that they will push for Santana for the new ball park, i know many people will knock AROD but i'm glad he was here because we may have not been in the playoff's,

so i don't think they will make major changes as for the pitching goes if the going to go after Santana, but we will have to wait and see.....

NO! Torre should not be fired. There's nothing wrong with Torre's managing skills. He rode a dog into the playoffs. The Yankess have lacked quality pitching since their last championship. The Yankess won games because they outscored their opponents. The problem with teams like the Yankess is when they face quality pitching they get shutdown and the Yankees pitching staff can't hold back the other teams.

I'm willing to bet no other team has won as many games as the Yankees have under Torre during the last 13 years. I also believe Torre is tired of Steinbrenner and his bullshit and would welcome a change or even retirement. The Yaness lost because this team's pitching staff SUCKED! Yet they made the playoffs but mainly due to to A-Rod. No A-Rod no playoffs.

Torre has nothing to be ashamed of and you better believe if the Yankess let him go some other team will pick him up in a heartbeat. He may even have his choice of teams to select from.

The pitching killed the Yankees... They really hurt themselves by depleting their farm system and not developing their talent.. They became reliant on the free agent market... That 96' team was special because it was a perfect mixture of youth and experience, they need to get that back. Well, very few coaches actually DESERVE or do things to DESERVE to get fired. However at the end of the day, its about results. Especially in the BIG APPLE, when you have one of if not the highest payroll in baseball. You have the best player (Rodrigez), arguably the best reliever of all time (Rivera), one of the most potent middle lineups in the game (Jeter, Abreu, Martinez, Rodrigez), you have to win when you're the Yankees. End of story.

But there is something else about this whole Torre thing that no one is really talking about. Remember that Sheffield interview on Real Sports about Torre treating the black players differently. And then they asked Kenny Lofton if it was true and Kenny said that Sheffield "knows what he's talking about". Torre was gone after that shit. The boss didn't need that kind of bad press. He didn't need black players worried about how they were getting treated by Torre.
