Man convicted for carrying Pelosi’s podium during US Capitol riot seeks Florida county office

— A man who grabbed then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s podium and posed with it for photographs during the U.S. Capitol riot is running for county office in Florida.

Adam Johnson filed to run as a Republican for an at-large seat on the Manatee County Commission on Tuesday. That was the fifth anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot, where he was photographed smiling and waving as he carried Pelosi’s podium after the pro-Trump mob’s attack on Jan. 6, 2021.

He’s far from the first person implicated in the Jan. 6 riot to run for office. At least three ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2024 as Republicans. And there are signs that the Republican Party is welcoming back more people who were convicted of Jan. 6 offenses after Trump pardoned them...

One of Florida's prisoners scheduled to die in July, a man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend's parents in 1986, is 80 years old and would be only the second known octogenarian to be executed in the U.S...

According to an arrest affidavit cited by The Smoking Gun, Anthony Gordon, 32, was arrested and charged with domestic battery by strangulation following an incident involving his 45-year-old girlfriend.

Police in Pinellas County said the couple was lying in bed earlier this month when the woman allegedly asked Gordon "not to fart in bed." The affidavit states that Gordon responded by calling her a derogatory name, prompting the woman to spit on him.

Investigators allege Gordon then grabbed the woman by the throat with both hands and pulled her from the bed onto the floor. The woman told police the choking lasted several seconds before ending when she bit Gordon's finger...
