How an American Magazine’s Cover Changed in 470 Days
It took just 470 days for The Economist’s cover to shift from “The End of the Islamic Republic of Iran” to “The End of America’s Presence in the Middle East.”
During this period, Iran was subjected to the 12-day war and the Ramadan war, while the United States pursued what the U.S. Treasury Secretary described as the heaviest economic pressure in history against Iran.
Now, however, The Economist, which during the 12-day war featured the Iranian flag behind a missile with the headline “What will happen in the end?”, has published a cover depicting a defeated American soldier, asking: “What happens when America withdraws?”
