I agree with this and have argued in the past that's the reason thrillers are generally more scary than horror in a realistic way. Horror is too unrealistic and implausible to be scary in any sense other than the fantastical.

Horror, at its best, gives you the creepy feeling something is watching when you're alone but a thriller can actually make you afraid of real life situations. Meeting a seemingly charming person who ends up being a lunatic is something that can happen in real life.

Films like Cape Fear and Single White Female can really make you cautionary about trusting new people in certain situations.
Jaws was a horror and had people really afraid to go to the beach.. Shark attacks are real and depending on part of the world can happen more often than others... Cujo dealt with rabies which is reality and can cause real life violent attacks from animals... When a stranger calls dealt with a serial killer who was literally in the house while conversing with his next potential target( that intro was 1 of the illest scenes in a movie) that can and has happened for real.. There are various horror movies based on things in reality that can happen or has happened

Yeah, I know about the Jaws effect although it's probably a bit overstated. Did masses of people really avoid the beach in the 70s because of that film? And, while shark attacks do happen in reality, they're very rare occurrences.

As for Cujo, I doubt the popularity of St. Bernard's suffered because of that film. The only dog breed that I know of that has received a lot negative press in the media are pitbulls and they really haven't been shown negatively in film with exception of the In Loving Color skit "Lassie '90."

And, yes, horrors can be based on real events but even those tend to be written in very implausible ways. The killer is often too unrealistically uncanny. They manage to kill numerous people and have everything planned to a tee but, somehow, fail to kill the star. Like someone else stated above, thrillers tend to be more grounded.

These are my favorites from your list and in the order of favorite to least favorite. The ones I didn't include, I either didn't watch or didn't enjoy very much.

It's also worth noting that 2 of the 3 films you mentioned feature animals that are naturally stronger and faster than humans as the main antagonists. That allows the writers to have a formidable enemy without the need to impart supernatural strength or speed on them.

A shark killing multiple people (in water) is far more plausible than a man doing so unless he's armed with a firearm. A dude with a knife or machete wouldn't plausibly be stacking up bodies in a single attack without being subdued.

Lol at that last part check out world news where people have had multiple victims in knife attacks in places that lack guns... Mass stabbings is actually a thing

The largest mass stabbing event was the Sagamihara stabbings in Japan. There were 19 people killed and 26 injured but nearly all of the victims were either physically disabled, mentally disabled, or both.

I'm aware of mass stabbing events. I still stand by argument that a lumbering, slow moving maniac with a machete or knife slaughtering a group of young healthy teens/young adults is goofy and implausible.

Jason is 6 foot 6

Michael Myers 6 foot 3

Average female height 5 foot 5

Average male height 5 foot 10

Jason speed walks and knows shortcuts to get around crystal lake.. He's only been there for decades mastering his hunting grounds.. Also think he has super strength think ray Lewis times 5

As I said b4 on here I been around Ron arrest who is like 6 foot 8 no human should be able to move that fast at his height but he does.. As I said people are lucky he chose sports cause if he wanted to be a killer no escaping that nig with a knife.. So think Jason is basically Ron artest

Also Jason has ran b4 and he infamous on jumping through windows

Ron artest on them hoes 2:45 mark
