3 killed, 8 injured when gunman on a boat opens fire on crowd at a coastal North Carolina bar, officials say
Three people were killed and eight others injured when a gunman on a boat pulled up to a waterfront bar in North Carolina Saturday night and opened fire, officials said.
A person of interest is being questioned in relation to the shooting at American Fish Company in Southport, city public information officer ChyAnn Ketchum said.
The extent of the injuries is unknown.
The city urged people to avoid the area and stay in their homes during the investigation.
Southport is located near the mouth of the Cape Fear River, roughly 30 miles south of Wilmington.
CNN reached out to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and American Fish Company for comment.

Law enforcement is responding to reports of an active shooter in the Southport Yacht Basin.
SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) -Three people are dead and eight others are injured after a shooting at the Southport Yacht Basin.
The City of Southport posted an emergency notice on social media shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.
The City of Southport spokesperson stated that three people were killed when someone opened fire at the basin Saturday night. The current conditions of the eight other people who were injured are unknown.
According to the spokesperson, a person of interest is being questioned.
WECT has a crew on the way to the scene and will have more information as soon as possible.
