TV SHOWS / SERIES - Seen any good ones lately? Please feel free to post reviews / feedback / trailers / articles / TV news / all that shit ...

Watched the first 2 episodes of Smoke yesterday and recognized a number of the shooting locations.

They filmed in and around Vancouver, Burnaby, and Maple Ridge.

Last year when driving to work I would pass by the Hastings & Gamma location which used to be an old Pizza Hut. That's where they set up shop as the "Coop's Fried Chicken" location. @ThaBurgerPimp - interesting side note. In that other thread from recent weeks talking about car accidents, etc. I mentioned the intersection where I was on the bus that got T-boned in the intersection back in the late-90s or early-00s. That's the intersection with the bus turning left and the car coming down the hill. See the Reddit link below. The other time the bus got hit was about a half block north of there with the woman who rolled through the stop sign making the right turn and hit the back right passenger side of the city bus. The location of the restaurant is right on the corner with a McDonald's across the street (which was kept out of view during the Smoke episode).

The scenes with Jurnee's character running / working out are at New Brighton Park. That's about 10 minutes from my aunt's place.

The scene about 15 minutes into episode 2 where they are following the vehicle from the firehall ... they cut through the gas station just off the intersection of Hastings & Holdom. That's my old stomping grounds. I grew up about 10 mins on foot from there as a kid in the 80s. I drive through that intersection on a daily basis these days en route to work.

I couldn't place the neighborhood for Jurnee's house. It's either in East Vancouver or Maple Ridge.

1883 is by far his best tv work - it was much better than quite a few popular shows with a laundry list of nominations

the rest of his shows aren't consistent enough - they are fun watches - but none are excellent

and
its possible the community are expecting to see him bring the quality of his film writing to TV

Probably because he always has to include some easy to debunk political commentary in all his shows, and he always ties to make himself the coolest character.

Agreed. 1883 was definitely better than expected. Credit to Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as well. Their chemistry worked and was believable, given that they're married in real-life dating back nearly 30 years.

I REALLY liked that series

I disagree with that. I think fun addictive and reliable is NOT easy or common especially in this current landscape.

and him writing an OVERWWHELMING majority of this HIMSELF?

Plus who he is able to cast? And the performances they bring?

AND THE RATINGS?

They hating.

He deserved recognition

"it takes an almost impossible hard level of work to make a bad movie - never mind a really good one..."

look -you cant get nominations & awards from your peers for writing these

and then years later expect your peers to give awards and nominations for shit like this

Damn...okay you not wrong. But you choosing the weakest and btw VERY SUCCESSFUL one.

I'm talking Landman Kingstown 1883 Lioness those were wildly successful big budget seriously successful series.

And he is WRITNG and DIRECTING a LOT of that.

we seeing multimillion series fail after one season on rival streaming services trying to mimic what Sheridan doing.

Just past the halfway point of The Bear season 4 (have seen 6 of 10 episodes). Definitely enjoying this season and looking forward to how the rest of the eps play out. The best dramatic / emotional acting comes from Sydney in episode 6. Liked seeing her show off her acting chops there. Probably gonna rewatch that scene in particular before continuing with ep 7 next week.

Here's the scene in question. Only click it if you want to, as I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't been watching the current 4th season of the show. This is just past the midway point of the season ....
