Knicks fire Tom Thibodeau

" I complained to the Front Office about TIBS, but I didn't expect ALL THAT!"

That's absolutely crazy! Lifelong Knick fan here, and he's the best coach I've ever seen...only 2nd to Phil Jackson. It's all good though. He'll be picked up by the end of the week. Hell of a coach and person.

Nolan did him dirty (just like Charles Oakley).
Lifelong Knick Fan here also.
But I Disagree.

Thibbs is definitely NOT the best coach I have ever seen. :smh: Not even close.

^^^^ Jeff Teague is correct about Thibbs.

Ssshhheeeeiiitttt....

If Ime Udoka had coached this very same Knicks roster... they would have reached the Finals this year, with a great chance of winning it all.

Thibbs is a Rebuilding Coach. That's his strong suit.
But he only coaches at one end of the floor... and that's a crazy weakness.

His biggest problem is his stubbornness & refusal to trust Rookies and Bench Players.
He would NEVER coach a player who even had half-a-chance to win "Rookie of the Year".
:hmm:

That's self-inflicted. He could easily change that motto if he wanted to.

But what makes it even worse is...
Thibbs doesn't play his bench or his Rookies early in the season... then year after year... he ends up getting ELIMINATED from the Playoffs from the teams THAT DO play their Rookies and bench players early in the season, more than he does. :hmm:

This ain't the 1980s or 1990s anymore. :smh:

The Teams that win the NBA Finals nowadays are the teams that USE THEIR BENCH.
Everybody Contributes. Not just 7 or 8 guys alone.

In Game 6, PJ Tucker was on the bench watching Thomas Bryant sink the same 'corner 3' that he is capable of hitting. :hmm:

That's why Thibbs needs an "Offensive Coordinator" to run the Offense & make Subs... while he handles Defense.
Even Phil Jackson had Tex Winter to fill that role.

Yes, Thibbs brought the Knicks back from obscurity. I commend him for that.
Once again, they are a VIABLE destination for top talent in the NBA because of Thibbs. Indeed.
Mission Accomplished. Thanks!

But now the Knicks need to move on from the Thibbs era.
They are legit contenders now. And they need a Championship-Level Coach who can get them to the mountaintop.

Let's not forget...
  • The Bulls had to fire Doug Collins... for Jordan to win his 1st ring.
  • The Lakers had to fire Del Harris... for Kobe to win his 1st ring.
  • The Warriors had to fire Mark Jackson... for Chef Curry to win his 1st ring.
Now the Knicks need to follow suit, so that Jalen Brunson can raise a Championship banner into the MSG rafters.

Thibbs ain't the one & only coach on the planet who can coach the Knicks.
He did a good job. But his coaching style is outdated/stuck in the 1980s.

If he stayed another season, he would most definitely RUN the starting 5 into the ground (Even more than he did this year).

Since he's predictable & sooooo stubborn... guaranteed he would sooner double-down on "what was working" for him this season... before trying a lot of NEW stuff.

Nah, it's time to move on.

Life is too short to be stuck with Thibbs for a whole decade.

What's wrong with the Knicks is wrong with the league and this new style of play where no defense till the fourth quarter and everything has to be checked to make sure it's not a flagrant foul.

You can't win without defense especially when it matters, it'll be back and forth the whole damn game til fouls get called or someone misses a shot.

The Knicks started playing defense to late and the coach could only do but so much.

When a player hasn’t missed a game since high school tells you that you play them too much and you don’t listen. It’s time to go. And. Fuck him forever for what he did to drose..

Up convincingly in an early round playoff game. Shit wasn't even in doubt at that point. None of the starters needed to be in the game if my memory is correct.

Dude, what do you do for a living? I need to know cuz this shit was so fucking beautifully written, you're not the average bear. This shit was written and spaced perfectly, with highlights and bullet points. You are not the average bear.

You can DM me And I'll keep your secret, I'm just fucking curious, cuz God damn this was beautiful.

One thing I learned about writing that I learned here on BGOL is short paragraphs. Avoid the word wall, and you did that masterfully.

I will say, I do find it odd that he didn't play much of the bench during the playoffs.

Same could be said of Kenny, except occasionally Kenny did throw some of the 2nd /3rd string in when guys really needed a rest or due to injuries/lack of depth......

I'm not familiar of Thibs history of running players/ teams into the ground, but if that's his pattern..... then yeah I guess he did. But to make it to the EC Finals for the first time in 25 years and still fire the coach is wild

He always does this shit, everywhere he goes he runs the fuck out of his starters. During the season and the playoffs pretty much he rolls with seven guys and the starters play like 40 minutes a game. Usually they're burnt out by the time they get to the playoffs

It's not that he's a bad coach, but he needs an offensive coordinator as someone said, one to help him with subs

I guess it was finals or bust?

The funny thing is that he would probably still be coach if Tatum were healthy and they lost.

He's a good coach but stubborn asf, we dealt with him running players in the ground in Chicago. DRose was playing meaningless minutes against Philly in a playoff game where they were up 20 or more points, Thibs didn't take him out and he blew his knee out. He did that repeatedly during his time in Chicago.
