Democrats are stuck appealing to a wide audience who are fickle. All anyone can do right now is get information out there. If that person who chose the couch, would rather be uninformed & oblivious, they'll continue to feel hopeless & helpless.
If a Democrat goes around promising voters some unrealistic dream, we'll be right back in this shit. Democrats typically play by the rules. So there's checks & balances. And most of the time, we live in an endless cycle of chaos. Democrats spend their time un-fucking republican's fuck ups. And during this period, voters feel they aren't doing enough. Because of short-sightedness. We end up right back in the hands of the idiots that wrecked things.
Are Democrats perfect? Not even close. Are they the best option? Most definitely. Do they have an image problem? Without a doubt. Can they do more to combat this craziness? Absolutely. But they can't grab some undecided or apathetic voter by their head & shove information down their throats. The people in this country who care about their lives beyond "one" issue & who care about this country have to work.
Americans are too damn lazy, with attention spans like goldfish. And the education system has completely failed us on government & how it operates. This thread is a good place for people to dump information for us here. Because the news media either treats this regime with kid gloves or are implicit in their operation. They don't scream loud enough about the things President Executive Order & his minions are doing.
I agree with what you're saying.
What I'm saying is that if you are a party that only gets politically informed people in this country to vote for it, you will forever be a losing party to sometimes sneaks out a win.
Republicans have found a way to get low information voters to come out for them i.e social media.
Also, (colin warning) if you go back to 2012, Obama had just won re-election and people were saying Republican may become a permanent minority party because of the changing demographics of the country.
Republicans themselves did a post mortem that said they could not be a white people only party any more. The racists in the party said "fuck that. Where can we find some more white people votes?"
They found them. Rural voters. They went to rural voters and found out they hated immigration, trade deals, Black people, and elitists.
Mitt Romney and previous Republicans ran on cutting taxes and regulations. To target those rural voters, Trump's people gave him these stump messages: Build the wall, end the trade deals, white people are the real victims, Democrats are elitist that hate the common man. Republicans were for most of those things, but it was never their main topics, and hell, they were the party of trade deals.
The reason why Hillary's loss in 2016 was such a surprise is that so many white rural voters that had never voted before came out and voted for Trump. In 2024, Trump won 90(!) percent of rural counties.
Dems have their own group of untapped voters to go to. Urban Black and brown voters in low income areas that are nonvoters. If Dems could find or issues that could turn them into reliable Dem voters, Dems could sweep every election. Dems could keep their same messaging, just add something for those folks as well.
90 million voters did not vote in 2024. If Dems had convince 10% of those voters to vote, they would have swept the election. Even if we cant convince them, I would at least like to try.
Last point, four years ago, Beto sent a warning to dems about the wall of blue latino districts in south Texas. He told dems the had to get down there because every time he went to those districts they said he was the first dem to visit, but Republicans were there often. Almost all of those counties are all red now.
Dems need to get out into these communities more than at election time and build connections.
