The Accountant 2

PRAISE: Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and J.K. Simmons all return in the sequel to the 2016 movie, this time around the Brothers Christian and Braxton find themselves in the middle of the mystery of who killed Treasury Chief. It's interesting to see both brothers deal with what's going on with each other mentally. Christian with his autism and Braxton with his own set of problems. At the core of both men is loneliness. How that loneliness factors in the movie leads to scenes that are sometimes funny and heartfelt and it was highly enjoyable to watch . Affleck and Bernthal both look like they are having a great time whether they are at each other's throats, hanging out or expressing the distance between them that is both literal and figurative.
For the most part the multiple story threads that include human trafficking, trauma, the complexities of the mind and the loss of family really worked. There are a couple of action sequences that really worked for me.

PROBLEMS:The villains in the movie are mediocre at best. Cynthia Addai-Robinson's role is gradually widdled down to that of a scolding mother. Some of the action sequences play out in basic ways and at times it felt there were no real stakes as if the movie rolls back on what could have been something moving and motivating. The movie travels down some predictable paths.

The Six Triple Eight
2024

6.5/10

This fllm debuted last year on Netflix and I watched it last night at home.

It’s a historical drama based around a all Black WW2 Female unit.

It’s an interesting film, nothing spectacular.

If you are a military veteran, it’s completely inaccurate in portraying the military. The film is put out by Tyler Perry and shot mainly at his studio in Georgia. Not understanding why he couldn’t get military historians from one of the ARMY Forts in Georgia for technical advice.

Actress Shanice Williams steals the film with her performance and delivery of lines.

I was thrown off at the start when they showed a mixed, interracial high school. I was like WTF.

I Googled and what was interesting when I typed it, halfway typing about desegregation in Philadelphia schools, it automatically filled it in. So I obviously wasn’t the only person scratching their head with that. HaHa!!!

For the Militants, there is interracial WM/BW, just PDA is shown.

Overall, it’s a decent film to watch with your children.

There is a retrospective/memorial for the unit with current day survivors. They also list all the women who were in the unit.

Synopsis
Eight hundred and fifty-five join the war effort to address a three-year mail backlog. Despite discrimination and war-torn conditions, they sort over seventeen million pieces of mail ahead of schedule.

Finally, a win for those of us who read captions on Netflix

According to the study, those using subtitles cited two primary factors for doing so: to enhance their general comprehension, and help them understand accents.

Babygirl
2024

5.5/10

I watched this last night on MAX at home.

The premise is similar to the cult classic “Secretary”, the difference is the roles are reversed.

Sexual depictions are not graphic, but filmed in a way where you get the point of what’s going on.

For the Thirsty, Nicole Kidman has some semi-nude scenes showing her full body. She is still holding up after squirting out Tom Cruise’s kids.

It’s an interesting film, nothing spectacular. If your girl isn’t hung up about sexual depictions in film, it’s a decent film to watch with her.

Synopsis

A high-powered CEO puts her career and family on the line when she begins a torrid affair with her much younger intern.

Juror #2
2024

7.5/10

I watched this one this afternoon on MAX at home. I had stumbled upon it some time ago searching around my cable service for something unrelated, the way the trailer played out struck my interest.

The film starts out showing what the crime is and around 15 minutes in it goes directly into jury selection and the trail soon after. If you are unfamiliar with jury selection, this film gives a short scenario of how it plays out.

There is a large number of recognizable actors in the film who do their roles pretty well.

The trial is pretty short, similar to what you see on any episode of “Law & Order”. The majority of the film is with the jury trying to come up with a verdict. During this part, it plays out similarly to the classic play “12 Angry Men”.

Not much for suspense and the ending seems predictable (which it is) but it doesn’t play out like you may think.

Basically, it’s a well presented film showing the criminal justice system and how imperfect it is.

Synopsis

A juror for a high-profile murder trial finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma that could influence the verdict and potentially convict, or free, the accused killer.

Warfare

Don't expect a lot of character development, any answers or a bunch of dialogue, because after the first 20 minutes you're in the room with the soldiers

This definitely isn't a movie that glamorizes war or the military.

I'm not even sure this is a movie you like. You just leave respecting what many have to go through. If you can't stand blood and the horrors of war, this isn't for you.

Sinners

First, make sure you stay for the mid credit scene. The end credit scene wasn't really necessary

Ryan Coogler showed what a great filmmaker he is. The story itself was interesting before the vampire aspects is added. It does a great job of character development. Also, it's basically a musical with how much blues is intertwined.

Delroy Lindo is so underrated. The guy who played Sammy did a great job for his first movie. Michael B Jordan also impressed me.

I'll probably go see it again in IMAX, but the music makes me want to see it in Dolby.

Hopefully it does well, the IMAX and Dolby for later were pretty packed, so hopefully we support it.

Saw it again. This time in IMAX before Thunderbolts takes them away.

Still just as enjoyable and I noticed the ratios changing.

DROP

If you are having a good first date there's usually good conversation over a good meal. Some flirting and charm, kiss good night and the are you home safe let's do this again call but not so for Violet (Meghann Fahy) and photographer Henry (Brandon Sklenar) as they get pulled into something sinister. The charm and thoughtfulness of the date is intact and I liked that it started to blend with a Hitchcock vibe,as i tried to figure out why Violet was chosen to be tormented and threatened while on the date. Both actors do a fine job as the scenes and date becomes more tumultuous. Even a few of the obnoxious moves a person can bring to a date was infused in their scenes together. Even when I tried to pick apart a few things in the films first hour like asking well why doesn't she do this or that but her tormentor had her pretty much covered so I went along with it as the film was still remaining on a suspenseful path. The visuals are interesting and on point as the torment continues.

PROBLEMS: There are a couple of time out let's explain things moments that didn't blend well with all of the suspense that was great in the first hour. I think the tormentor could have made a couple of moves to get what they wanted instead of choosing such an elaborate route. The climax was very basic.

@joneblaze

Just watched it yesterday and agreed re: 6.5 rating after watching it. Told a few friends it was okay. Not great or terrible. A C+ rating really.

I thought the rapport between the 2 leads was reasonable given it was a 1st date, and they'd already been communicating for months beforehand over text. Already liked both of them from their respective work on The White Lotus and 1923.

Enjoyed the side characters amongst the restaurant staffing. Cringe factor from the waiter, and situational awareness by the bartender.

Found the tormentor / villain effective.

All the distractions at the table, and getting up and walking away (from either party) was a bit much though. Had to suspend my disbelief with all of that. In the real world people would have just checked out from the date.

Found some of the violence in the last 15 minutes effective though. Good job by the stunt people as there was some physical stuff there. Bodies getting struck / thrown.

Havoc

Praise : This movie is gritty, bloody, intense and relentless x 100.
It's the kind of movie that never let me really breathe. Tom Hardy is Walker, a cop who the movie is establishes as walking the fine line between being corrupted and actually being a good cop, estranged father to caring just enough. He is placed right in the middle of a gang like murder and the mayhem starts up again after a action packed opening. I found myself having fun through most of the carnage as various characters find themselves in all types of trouble and they are portrayed with as much believability as the script allows by Forrest Whittaker, Jessie Mei Li, Justin Cornwell , Quelin Sepulveda,Luis Guzman and Michelle Waterson-Gomez. The action sequences are filmed in insane ways. From cramped quarters to in your face kills and oh the kills are fun and dwelling. When characters pop up to do the bidding of their bosses it was fun to wonder what their skill set would be.

PROBLEMS: The foundation of the film and the core of the characters are ultra clichéd as if to say who cares we just needed enough to get to the blood soaked action. There's some horrible green screen scenes especially towards the ending.

fair to say that marvel movies are done

Production was $180 million.

Marketing was $100 million.

It should have been released a week prior to Memorial Day, that way it could hang around in theaters until the 4th of July weekend.

I suspect this film should have probably just went straight to Disney+.

Kraven the Hunter bombed at the box office but is getting better views on Netflix where I watched it for the first time.

The Amateur

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. I would have seen it earlier. It's far from perfect, but was an entertaining watch for me.

This is Rami Malek as nerdy Mr Robot in a movie.

I wonder how much John Bernthal got paid and did he film for more than two days? He was unnecessary. Did they think he has so many fans people would run to see this movie?

The other kills were anticlimactic after the first two.

It did have some flaws. It concentrated on some of the wrong things. They could have removed the flashbacks and given more time to him and Larry's relationship.

The ending was sort of what the fuck. Going to jail is worse than being killed?

Thunderbolts*

Marvel provided they still know how to make a good movie. It was like a better Suicide Squad.

Yelena, Bucky and Red Guardian are all entertaining characters who I enjoy seeing on screen.

They should have had more Bucky in Brave New World.

Not sure I liked the casting of Bob. He might have needed more character development, but I liked the villain It's the first marvel villain in a while where I haven't been underwhelmed by their power and wondered how they were going to be defeated.

Solid movie, and even the post credits weren't just something forced in.

2024

7.5/10

I stumbled upon this film earlier this year while searching for something unrelated on my cable box. The trailer caught my eye and got me interested.

I watched it this afternoon on MAX while on the road.

It’s a unique Sci-Fi Documentary film focusing on what is currently going on in the world today.

If you are well informed on what is going on domestically and internationally regarding everything. You will definitely find this film informative and educational.

If you are a Conspiracy Theorist, this film was definitely made for you and it will provide some information to reinforce whatever you believe in.

If you are a Paranoid, Neurotic or suffering from Mental Illness or Depression, do not watch this film.

Do not watch this film if you are in a bad mood or feeling down on whatever situation you are currently in.

The film brought to light a number of things that I personally was aware of, but never put the pieces together. The film uses actual footage dating back to the early 1990s until 2024 mixed in with the main story of the main character, Ghost. Majority of the visuals you will be familiar with, what makes them so impactful is seeing them together.

If you are familiar with Peter Thiel, this film wil inform you on how much shit he has his Dirty Paws in. You will also figure out what Elon Musk/DOGE is up to when watching this film.

The film will give you insight on why people like Musk and Bezos are pushing their Space Endeavors. You will also figure out why they sent those 6 birds into Space, it wasn’t for “Female Empowerment”.

You will also realize every electronic device in your hand is a weapon/tool for the elite. If you think cuz using a VPN Is keeping you safe, this film will change your mind on that.

This is definitely a must watch film.

Synopsis

Ghost lives off-grid in a dystopian New San Francisco in the year 2073. The world is controlled by libertarians, dictators and tech bros. There is no dissent, no freedom. Everyone is monitored, people disappear, and the net is closing on Ghost.
