8/10

As I have stated before, I’m in the process of going thru my future ex-wife Melanie Lynskey film catalog.

I had watched this flick earlier last week while at home on PlutoTV.

It’s mainly a comedy/drama dealing with relationships. It’s presented well and the film delivers at a good pace from start to finish.

The actors in it are all good friends and know each other in real life, so that chemistry helps big time with the film.

Moon

I Am Mother is a 2019 Australian science fiction thriller film directed by Grant Sputore, from a screenplay by Michael Lloyd Green, based on a story by both. Starring Clara Rugaard, Luke Hawker, Rose Byrne, and Hilary Swank, the film follows Daughter, a girl in a post-apocalyptic bunker, being raised by Mother, a robot who is aiding the repopulation of Earth. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on 25 January 2019. Netflix released it in several countries on 7 June 2019.

Moon is a 2009 science fiction film directed by Duncan Jones (in his directorial debut), written by Nathan Parker from a story by Jones. The film follows Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell), a man who experiences a personal crisis as he nears the end of a three-year solitary stint mining helium-3 on the far side of the Moon. Kevin Spacey co-stars with a voice role, while Dominique McElligott, Kaya Scodelario, Benedict Wong, Matt Berry, and Malcolm Stewart have supporting roles.

It premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and was released in selected cinemas in New York and Los Angeles on 12 June 2009. The release was expanded to additional theatres in the United States on 10 July and to the United Kingdom on 17 July. A follow-up film containing an epilogue to the film's events, Mute, was released in 2018. A third installment, a graphic novel called Madi: Once Upon a Time in the Future, was released in 2020.

Moon was modestly budgeted and grossed just under $10 million worldwide,[4] but was well received by critics. Rockwell's performance found praise. The film won numerous film critic and film festival awards and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best British Film, and won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 2010.

4.5/10

My DVR is programmed to record Marilyn Monroe films and it recorded this a couple weeks ago from TCM while I was on the road. I watched it last night at home. I have reviewed a few of her films earlier in this thread.

I recall watching it once back in the 1980s on network TV, good chance it was edited down for time so I doubt I saw the full movie.

It’s a Rom-Com and is considered one of Marilyn’s best films. She does her usual “Blonde Bimbo” routine for her character. She was in her prime in this film, but they had a covered up mostly in conservative outfits. The best scene is a song/dance scene early in the film with her in an ugly corset costume. So her body is not fully displayed like how she looks in other projects from the era.

It’s a slo-burn film. It looks clean cinematography. Not much to the story as it tries to play out more like a character drama.

Overall, it’s not her best film, but not her worst. Like all films of the era, it takes place in a fantasy world of “Whites Only”.

Synopsis

Cowboys Beauregard Decker (Don Murray) and Virgil Blessing (Arthur O'Connell) attend a rodeo in Phoenix, where Decker falls in love with beautiful cafe singer Cherie (Marilyn Monroe). He wants to take Cherie back to his native Montana and marry her, but she dreams of traveling to Hollywood and becoming famous. When she resists his advances, Decker forces Cherie onto the bus back to Montana with him, but, when the bus makes an unscheduled stop due to bad weather, the tables are turned.
